In America, this type of art came much later - during the First World War. Most often, decoupage was as a hobby for women.

To make the background even and saturated, cover it with white paint several times. After each staining, either wait for complete drying, or dry the surface with a hairdryer. Here we have such a white blank. Now she is ready to glue the napkin.

Now let's get to the napkin. We tear out the fragment we need very carefully. You need to pull it out so that after gluing there are no noticeable edges of the napkin. In order not to tear off or tear the desired pattern, hold the napkin close to the edge where we will tear off the fragment. We tear out such a fragment of a napkin in size that fits on the workpiece. It does not matter if, after gluing the fragment, the edges protrude beyond the craft, they can then be sanded off. If we use several motifs, of course, the background will have to be sketched.

Now glue the motif. In decoupage, several methods are used for gluing napkins. Two methods are popular: the dry method - the napkin is placed on the product and smeared with glue on top, and the wet method - the napkin is pre-wetted with water and then glued. I like to use the second method and in this master class decoupage housekeeper we'll show you how.

The napkin is placed on the file front side down. With the help of a spray gun, we wet the torn motif.

We level the folds that have formed, drain the water, take the file, turn it over and apply the fragment to the workpiece. Without removing the cellophane, we expel air bubbles, align the napkin. Very carefully remove the file, holding the edges of the napkin on the workpiece. Otherwise, if you do not hold, we can remove the file along with the napkin.

Wet the key holder from excess water. Then we glue the fragment by applying decoupage glue on top. We start from the middle of the fragment and coat it to the edges. We make sure that the entire surface of our homemade product is covered with glue. We dry.

Since folds may form on the napkin during the gluing process, we will need to sand them. And in order not to remove the excess during sanding, we need to protect the napkin with a layer of varnish. So, we lachim and dry. Skinning. Yes, I forgot to write, I take construction varnish Tikkurila Kiva.
Then we paint on the background, we finish the elements that are not enough for us or those that were damaged in the creative process. We varnish the work at least three times. I love five coats of lacquer, so I varnish all my work five times. The craft then is covered with glass.

Decoupage of the perpetual calendar in the style of "Provence"

After letting the plane dry completely, the process of decorating the perpetual calendar with a two-step craquelure begins. To do this, at the initial stage, the first step is applied in a rather dense layer, which will dry from fifteen to thirty minutes. The next step is to apply a varnish of a more liquid consistency. Cracks should form in twelve hours.

Please note that the density and uniformity of the applied layer will allow you to get cracks of various sizes. Next, the cracks are rubbed with oil-based paint.

While drying the craquelure, you can decorate the cubes, as one of the main components, without which it is impossible to imagine an eternal calendar. Your favorite templates with numbers and fonts will help you do this. You can also paint the cubes with your own hands. Men's banknote with decoupage

Another lesson will show you how to decoupage a banknote. This craft is a great gift for men. To create such a product, you need to take a blank under the bill and sand all surfaces. Then, cover them with a walnut-colored water-based stain.

The workpiece cover is covered with light-colored acrylic. Along the edges of the banknote, gold-colored acrylic and emerald color are applied as a tone.

After that, the prepared image, printed using a laser printer, is taken and overlapped with adhesive tape. Further, the adhesive tape is carefully torn off step by step, thereby thinning the image. Having achieved the effect of the pattern with gaps you need, cut it out in the shape of the lid.

Please note that the size of the cracks formed will depend on the thickness of the applied layer. Thick layering will allow you to get large cracks. Leave the process to dry for several hours. After that, along the cracks that have formed, you will need to rub bronzer on dark areas and black pastel on light ones. You can do it yourself.

The second craquelure step is washed off with water. Point the jet of water at the surface and lightly walk on it with your hands.

After a thorough drying of the craquelure, an acrylic-based varnish is applied to the lid of the banknote.

Symbolic designations with currency symbols can become an interesting decorative element in a banknote. They are printed on ordinary office paper and cut out. So you learn a template that can be used more than once.

Having prepared such a stencil, using a brush, you will need to fill in the symbols on the back of the product cover.

The final step is to cover the banknote with several layers of semi-gloss acrylic lacquer.

Decorating a wooden comb

Since this comb is ultimately intended to be a vintage decor, it is necessary to get rid of the golden brightness of the dried contours. To do this, they are shaded with whitewash, wiped in the area among them. Get an interesting texture.

The main difference from a napkin is the high density of paper through which the base will not shine through. The main difficulty in working with decoupage cards is the need to make the border of the picture inconspicuous.
• Photographs, clippings from magazines, postcards. After some processing, they can also be used to decoupage the housekeeper. First, we fix the paint layer by spraying it with hairspray. Then we soak the selected picture in water and carefully roll the paper from its reverse side. We leave only a thin film with a pattern, and we will use it for gluing.

In addition, for we need decoupage of a wooden key holder priming. It can be ordinary acrylic paint, preferably white, so that the pasted motif retains the brightness of the colors. If you need to paint or draw a motif, we prepare the same acrylic paints of the desired colors. We need glue, it is better to take a special decoupage. If this is not possible, ordinary PVA will do. We are preparing a waterproof varnish, if possible, also special for decoupage.

Decoration technology

Any master class decoupage housekeeper includes the following steps:

1. Getting ready for decoupage. The surface of the key holder must be dry and clean. Any pollution, cracks and roughness are unacceptable. With them, the finished product will look sloppy and careless.
2. We prime the base. To do this, carefully cover it with one or two layers of acrylic paint. The most commonly used composition is white, which emphasizes the colors and pattern of the decoupage motif. If the image is on a dark background, we select a color to match it.
3. We determine the places where they will be located decorative motifs. We experiment by moving the images until we find the best option. If decoupage of a key holder with a door is performed, do not forget about the design of the inside of the product.
4. We glue the motive. Lubricate the base with a thin layer of glue. Carefully put the drawing on top and coat it well with glue. If we use PVA, pour a little glue into the center of the paper motif and carefully “disperse” it with a brush from the middle to the edges. So on the surface of the image there will be no creases and folds, and the paper will adhere securely to the base. Excess composition is carefully removed.
5. Give the glue time to dry completely.
6. We cover the paper image with a layer of varnish. After it dries, you can start toning the decoupage motif. We use suitable acrylic paints for this. Depending on the style in which the hand-made wooden key holder is decorated, different solutions are chosen. Colors can contrast sharply, or, on the contrary, gently complement and slightly shade each other.
7. Finishing consists in applying several layers of varnish, while each previous one must dry completely before applying the next one. So that the surface of the key holder is perfectly even, and the boundaries of the decoupage motif are invisible, we will go over the product with “zero” sandpaper.

To do this, you will need: old cutting boards / or new blanks from the store /, acrylic paints, varnish, brushes, foam sponges, a palette, paper serving napkins and patience.

It so happened that I learned decoupage myself. There were no master classes, there were no classes or lessons, I didn’t even have anyone to ask how it was done. And it was a pity to spend money on someone's master classes. =))) That's why a few years ago I made myself decent bumps. It’s good that I had an art school behind me, where they taught me to understand wood and all sorts of varnishes, putties, paints.

1. I also don't like to throw away old things. At all. Moreover, I love to pick up everything that is lying in the corners of other people's apartments. Now, in the form of guinea pigs, I had three "tired" boards for cutting food. If you have extra money, then you can go to an art store and buy blanks that are not cheap at all. But just as interesting =)

So, we have wood blanks that are saturated with fat. The first thing I did was wash and dry them. Then just go over sandpaper. And immediately varnished.
About varnish: varnishes are oil, nitro and acrylic. For the primary coating of such wood, you can take acrylic or nitro varnish. This is done in order to seal grease and any indelible dirt in the board itself. The same applies to things made of old wood from time to time, covered with stain or paint that you do not understand. Because further the product will be primed with white paint, and all sorts of spots, if you do not cover the surface with varnish, will creep out to white.

2. Somehow they brought me such a stool to a master class, they really wanted to restore it. There was little time, the varnish stank strongly - I just missed this moment, deciding that only the primer was enough. As a result, yellow and brown spots of old age began to appear already on decoupage. I had no choice but to redo everything myself - on the finished primer and decoupage I applied three layers of nitro-lacquer, each of which dried for several hours, then re-primed, decoupaged and varnished again. This was a lesson for me on all the things that are restored later.

3. So, if the wood is not new, then it needs to be varnished. Which is what I did.

I do not give a photo of the varnish, because in every hardware store you will find different varnishes, you do not need to know the brand that I used. So you need nitro or acrylic colorless varnish. And a flat hard brush. Cover the item 2-3 times, drying each layer for 2-3 hours.

4. We will prime with white acrylic. I have this paint of the Polish brand "Snezka". I buy white latex acrylic paint for bathrooms and kitchens. It is waterproof and anti-fungal.

If you do not plan to use it in the future, then you can buy acrylic primer in a small jar in a regular art store - it will be enough for you. It is not necessary to buy a liter bucket of "Snowballs".
But! In thin store acrylic primer is not waterproof usually.
So, take your primer and roller / you can use a brush, but the coating will turn out to be heterogeneous and often with brush marks / and cover your product. I cover from all sides, because the back of my product should also look aesthetically pleasing, and not like a board from the trash =)

5. While everything is drying, select a compositional drawing. At first, I bought packs of napkins. That's why I have so many of them. Now I just go to an art store and buy 2-3 of my favorite pieces.

8. Then I carefully scrape out only the element of the picture that I need from the common napkin.

9. We arm ourselves with a soft flat brush and PVA glue, which I usually dilute with water in a ratio of 70/30. Attach the drawing, dip the brush into the diluted glue and begin to gently disperse this glue from the center of the napkin to the edges, trying to avoid wrinkles and creases. In fact, they will. They will disappear only when you begin to feel the napkin - how much more can you pull it so that it does not break. But this will come with practice.
And one more thing: all napkins are divided into two categories. The first ones stretch like chewing gum, sometimes stretching for several centimeters. The second - spread into snot as soon as glue gets on them.
And yet ... you do not need to buy special glue for decoupage. PVA and water is all you need /unless you are working on fabric/.

This is what I came up with when I glued the napkins to the bases and everything dried.

10. Now we need to make the background. If you are using not a solid drawing, but several elements, then they need to be combined with paint. I use the same acrylic primer and pigments. You can use regular watercolors instead of pigments. They work great on acrylic.

11. Take a palette, drip acrylic on it and start mixing colors. It usually looks so unpresentable to me.

13. I take up to several colors on a dry sponge and begin to fill in the background with smacking movements. If the colors on the sponge mix with each other to the color of the mud, then my sponge, dry it and repeat everything again. And this is the end result.

There is a little trick. Purple, red, orange, carmine, emerald, burgundy, scarlet colors can give you a pig with further varnishing. They become really poisonous sometimes and float in such bright fluorescent spots to neighboring territories. Therefore, if you work with these colors, add a drop of PVA glue to them, it will "tie" them a little, and then they will not change their color when varnished.

14. And take a closer look.

Nitro-lacquer from an ordinary hardware store, its volume is 1 liter. It costs half as much as 50 ml of decoupage varnish in an art store. But they can only cover wood. I cover the product 2-3 times.
If the product then needs to be actively washed, then in addition to acrylic or nitro-lacquer, it will be necessary to cover it two more times with alkyd or oil varnish.

16. And now I had in my hands three almost finished products. I decided to make two key holders and a watch.

To do this, I needed a husband who spent the whole week screwing on hooks for me, drilling a hole for the clock mechanism, and all that. And then I came and quickly did everything out of anger in an hour.
When Sasha was screwing on the hooks for the future housekeeper, the board cracked.

17. I had to glue this flaw and disguise it like this.
I took a satin green ribbon with white polka dots and Moment glue.
