Thirdly, you can use it as a gift box. How you will decorate it is a separate topic, and in this article I would like to show, first of all, how to glue it with a cloth. We take a suitable box and, if it is poorly glued, separate the edges and re-glue them.
Take whatman paper - so that you do not have to glue small sheets together, and you can immediately cut out one long strip that will cover two sides (not only outside, but also inside), the bottom.
The second strip will also pass through the bottom, but through the other sides.
On the box, measure on a paper strip where there will be what parts of it.
Fold the paper along these lines.
PVA glue well coat only the bottom.
And when already glued, only then smear the sides.
It can be seen that the sidewalls bend a little further than the height of the sides - this must be taken into account in advance. Plus, the inside of the box is a millimeter smaller on each side than the outside, cut it carefully.
Also, only bending inward clearly along the height of the sides, we glue the second strip across the box.
Let's start processing the cover. Expand it to cut off the excess.
Having measured the resulting width and length of the sides with a ruler, we cut out a long strip to fit the size, which will all be equal to the total length of the sides.
And glue the strip around the perimeter of the lid.
Prepare the fabric: wash it or iron it with a steamer. Make a workpiece equal to the length and width of the box on all sides, except for the bottom, taking into account the inner sides, add a seam allowance.
When wrapping the box with a cloth, pin those places where the corners are. The fabric should be placed right side up to the box. The fabric should not stretch.
Be sure to remove the fabric and draw lines along the pins with a pencil or tailor's chalk.
On a typewriter, sew 0.5 cm from the pins (meaning that you need to step back to reduce the size so that the fabric tightly fits the box).
Don't forget to cut off the excess fabric.
Glue is better to take one that will not shine through a thin fabric. In principle, PVA will also work, but stains may remain. Coat the inner and outer edges.
Turn the fabric right side out and wrap it around the box.
The seam should be at the corner to be less noticeable. .
Glue double-sided tape around the perimeter of the bottom to glue the edges of the fabric to it.
If the edges remain unglued, then you can take PVA here.
To make the bottom soft, which is very convenient for a gift if it is fragile, or for sewing accessories - the bottom can simultaneously serve as a needle bed, you need to cut a piece of thick cardboard to fit the bottom, the same size synthetic winterizer, and the fabric is slightly wider on all sides.
When all the layers are connected and dry, glue the side that was left without fabric to the bottom of the box.
Treat the bottom of the box from the outside - attach double-sided tape to the corners.
Do this with all corners and reinforce the edges with glue.
When you're done, cut another sheet to fit the bottom, literally 2mm shorter on each side. Coat the bottom and glue the sheet.

Circle the contours of the lid on the fabric, taking into account the sides.
The double-sided tape should already be stuck around the perimeter of the lid by the time you place it on the fabric covered with glue.
On all sides we smear with glue and attach the fabric.
Cut off the excess fabric to make it look neater and then the lid closes easily.
Cut the adhesive double-sided interlining to the size of this part.
Wrap, press and iron so that both sides stick to each other.
Attach a thin strip of double-sided tape right along the edge.
At the same time coat the side with glue.
The sides should look neat.
The main thing is that nothing is bent from the inside.
And also glue the cardboard for the fortress.
Decorate the lid as you wish. If this is a gift option, you can simply wrap it with ribbon or attach a bow.

So, how to sheathe the box? We will follow the whole process step by step on a specific example, and make sure that it is very simple to do.

What will be required:

The box itself. A shoe box or a box from household appliances is suitable, in the end, it’s even easy to make it yourself.
A piece of cardboard the size of the bottom of the box.
Fabric to cover it. You will need two pieces the length of the perimeter of the box and another couple of centimeters need to be added to the deflection. The first piece will be needed for the inside, the second for the outside. In addition to them, you will need another piece of fabric a little larger than the bottom of the box (a centimeter or two on each side).

PVA glue.
Needle and thread matched to the color of the fabric.

First you need to wrap the box with a cloth on the outside. It will look like this:

As you can see, from the inside the bottom does not look very pretty, but this is not for long - after all, fixing it is only a couple of trifles! Finally, you should pay attention to the outside of the bottom. We will also glue pre-prepared paper on it, covering the fabric sections with it, and at the same time protecting them from drying out. This time you will need PVA glue, and do not forget to carefully coat the edges of the paper.

This step-by-step tutorial will guide you if you want to be able to create tight fabric-covered boxes in any size and in a wide variety of shapes.

As an example, we will have a box on the wall for aromatic oils. I really love essential oils and oils for the home, I like to mix them and look for new smells, add them to the bath or to the humidifier ... I collected about the same number of jars throughout the apartment:

I lined up my jars in a couple of rows to estimate the size of the future box I need.

And I cut out the bottom and walls from binding cardboard (I used 1.75 mm thick), marking its size on each piece for myself. The back and front wall are smaller in width than the bottom, by the thickness of the cardboard, multiplied by two. I have them smaller by 3.5 mm.

When gluing, I retreated from the edge of the very thickness of the cardboard - 1.75 mm. All this is done quite approximately - if anything, then we will sharpen the result.

I glue the back and side walls:

In the middle, I will still have a separator bar for rows with jars. It would be more competent to glue it after strengthening the walls, but the phone call distracted, and here it is :) However, this is not so important.

Now, from the inside of the box, I glued each joint with strips of kraft paper to strengthen the walls.

At this stage, it is desirable to process all external uneven joints with sandpaper or a rough nail file in order to bring the frame closer to perfect forms :)

We proceed to gluing the frame with a cloth. For the first time, it is better to take cotton for patchwork, it is quite thin and pliable, and besides, it does not react very badly to excess glue. First, I cut out a piece that will wrap the side and back walls. Pasting a box of complex shape reminds me more of the modeling process, a lot of it happens intuitively. The main task is to hide all cuts and build neat corners.

I cover the side surface with a thin layer of glue, trying to distribute it as evenly as possible. I use Korfix hobby glue.

After I glue the second barrel. After gluing, I go over the fabric with an iron, this evens it out and dries the glue instantly. There are valves on the sides. I make an incision on them, and glue the part adjacent to the outside of the sidewall.

If there is a bevel in the box, then I cut off the excess fabric, leaving about a centimeter for the fold.

And I glue the rest inside the box.

We also bend the upper part of the back wall inward, carefully forming corners.

I turn the fabric to the bottom:

Now I cut out a second piece of fabric that covers the bottom, then goes along the front wall, then inside the box and ends inside at the top of the back wall. On the sides, I leave about a centimeter for a bend (it can be less, but then it’s not very convenient to work).

I measure the length by applying the fabric over approximately the entire surface to be pasted over with it. The main thing here is to estimate the size so that it is enough. I don’t cut off the excess yet, it’s better to cut it off later. When working with boxes, I always cut off the edge of the fabric, otherwise it can create rough bumps in the future.

I start from the bottom. First, I fold with an iron a bend that hides the cut from below.

Then one of the side parts.

It is better to cut off the excess from the corner.

Then I measure the width of the fabric along the width of the bottom, and fold the remaining sidewall with an iron.

It is not necessary to bend the entire length of the piece. Just to cover the bottom.

I glue the fabric to the bottom.

I bend the two sides a little more, very accurately trying on the box - this is the most prominent part of the product :)

And I glue the outer part of the front wall.

Here I make an incision on the corner - otherwise the fabric with this form will not lie flat.

I glue the inside of the front wall.

Now it remains to glue only the back wall, and the exact size of the fabric became clear to me. I cut off the excess, leaving only the hem to hide the cut.

I bend it with an iron and glue it. I carefully glued the internal mess on the sides, trying to give it the most flat look. Boxes with narrow cells are quite difficult to make, it can be difficult to crawl up and glue some places. I used the back side of the brush.

It remains to close the sides :)

Using the method of precise adjustment and measurements, I cut out the inner walls on the sides from scrapbooking paper.

And I glue them.

I put eyelets on top of my box to frame the holes and hang it on the wall in the future. And in front I decorated it with a glass droplet that maintains the color of the paper on the walls inside.
