Cast on 80 stitches on your needles.

Or something else. But in this article we will talk about a warm, cozy and bright shirt-front for a child - this is something that you simply cannot do without in a frosty time. In addition, knitting a shirt-front with knitting needles is not at all difficult, and even a beginner in needlework can handle it. So, let's begin.

How to knit a shirt-front with knitting needles - a master class with a description and a diagram:

1. For this shirt-front (for a child of 9-12 months), you need 2 skeins of special children's (any that do not “prick”) threads of dark brown and blue colors and knitting needles, 2.5 mm in diameter, preferably with an elastic connection. The composition of these particular threads is 65% acrylic and 35% merino wool, in a skein of about 150 m, but only half will go away. You will also need buttons at the end.

2. We start knitting our shirt front from the top (from the neck), for which we collect 88 loops using blue threads. You can dial a little more if the baby is larger, but try to keep the number of loops a multiple of 2.

3. Now we knit an elastic band 1X1, that is, 1 facial, 1 purl. In total, we knit 2 rows (we plan a pattern on the shirt-front, so the rows will have to be counted).

4. We continue to knit with an elastic band 1X1, but already replacing the blue threads with dark brown ones.

5. So, alternating threads, we knit an elastic band about 10-12 cm high - the neck of our shirt-front is ready. We remind you that the neck itself will be with a lapel.

6. And now we begin to add loops. We do it this way: when knitting the next row, we make 2 facial loops from each facial loop, that is, an elastic band 1X2 should come out.

7. We knit 5 rows with this elastic band (we replace the brown thread with a blue one for convenience and beauty). Then again from each front we knit 2.

8. After the addition, we should have a 2X2 elastic band, with which we will tie our shirt-front to the end, and this is about 14-16 rows. Do not forget about the alternation of threads for a beautiful pattern.

9. Well, the knitted shirt-front is almost ready for the child! You can, of course, already sew on buttons, but we will also make special trims.

10. Since this model has a lapel, you need to tuck the neck and sew it along the edges with a regular thread.

11. Now we move on to knitting straps for buttons and eyelets. We collect from edge loops and new thread the desired number of loops (about 35).

12. We knit with an elastic band 1X1 5-7 rows and close - we get a bar for buttons.

13. We do the same from the other edge, only after knitting 2 rows, we proceed to create. buttonholes with a regular yarn. Having reached the place where you need to make a hole, after the front loop on the working knitting needle, we make a crochet. We knit the next 2 together, also facial. From the inside, everything is knitted according to the pattern, and where the yarn is, if everything is correct, the front loop should come out.

Knitted things on the child look attractive, visually creating an atmosphere of care and warmth of the mother. A knitted shirt is warm and comfortable. Of course, most parents believe that the use of scarves for a fidget boy does not bring the proper result - protection from the cold. After all, it has to be constantly tied up by parents, periodically corrected during walks. Another thing is the shirt-front, which is easily put on by the children themselves under the jacket and does not require constant monitoring of the position. Moreover, it is light, warm and cozy in it - your child will always be protected from wind and frost.

The above, for sure, inspired me to think about my own incarnation of a knitted shirt-front. This is easy to do with knitting needles, which even a novice craftswoman can handle. Below are several knitting options that differ in complexity and skill required.

simple bib

For beginners, a model knitted with a garter stitch is suitable. Take two types of knitting needles - simple straight and circular, which will avoid the embodiment of the seam. You will also need yarn of a “real masculine” color, designed for knitting children's things (usually in the series there are types of yarn marked Baby). An example will be given for knitting needles No. 4 and a boy aged 4-5 years.

Cast on 14 sts on needles - use plain straight needles.
Work 14 rows, increasing the number of stitches on each RS row by 2 stitches for a total of 7 increases and 28 stitches.
Next, knit these 28 loops for a height of 7 cm.
On RS row, work 10 sts, bind off 8 sts and continue with remaining 10 sts.
Now knit each fabric separately - knit a row, turn the work over, remove the hem, tie 2 loops together, finish the row, knit the wrong side, turn the work over, make one more decrease - as a result, 8 loops should remain on the needles.
Knit 8 loops to a height of 3-4 cm, symmetrically perform additions - reach the initial 10 loops. Cut the thread, leaving long end.
Return to the symmetrical part - 10 loops remained on the needles while knitting one half. Make symmetrical decreases and additions.
Now you need to connect both parts. To do this, after adding the part to your right, start knitting the front row in the sequence - knit 10 loops in garter stitch, cast on 8 loops on the knitting needles, knit 10 loops on the left side.
Continue knitting in the same way - knit 6 cm with a garter stitch, make 7 decreases in 14 rows, having achieved 14 loops, cast off the loops.
It turned out a kind of rhombus with a hole inside - this is the future neck. On circular knitting needles (with fishing line), cast on the neck loops and continue knitting with a garter stitch to a height of 14 cm - this is taking into account the collar. It is better to replace the garter stitch with an elastic band, but this is difficult for beginners if they only have a garter stitch in their arsenal, and constant confusion occurs with the elastic band.

The hinges are closed, the product is washed by hand in warm and slightly soapy water and dried on a towel. Such a model can be somewhat complicated, for example, by knitting complex patterns on the “rhombus”.

2nd version of the simple model

There is another simple option for knitting a shirt-front with knitting needles for beginners - it uses a fastener in the form of buttons. Detailed tips and description of the model are presented below:

Cast on 20 sts on needles and start knitting in garter stitch.
In each front row, make additions of 2 loops - at the edges after and before the edge loop, add a loop by knitting it from the previous row. In total, from 18 to 20 additions should be obtained.
Next, with a second ball or, tearing off the thread from the first kind of triangle, they begin to knit the second one on the same knitting needles. Knitting is carried out in a similar way - it should turn out on straight knitting needles 2 identical triangles.
Now they begin to connect the two parts - on the front side, they first begin to knit the first triangle, then, without tearing off the thread, they knit the second one. This can be done simply with facial loops, but in order to preserve the pattern, it is better to immediately use the knitting of the elastic band.
It is better to knit a 2x2 elastic band - this is the most suitable knitting pattern, because the resulting fabric holds its shape and at the same time stretches elastically. A “collar” is knitted with an elastic band - this is approximately 14-20 cm, depending on the length of the neck and the age of the child (the length is indicated taking into account the fold).
At the same time, holes for buttons should be made in the elastic band on one side. To do this, it is enough to use the technique of 2 loops together and 1 yarn over - such holes are suitable for neat small round buttons.
Having knitted to the desired length, the loops are closed, and the finished product is stretched and dried. Sew on buttons and wear with pleasure.

In this way, you can knit any pattern on canvases, which is often used by experienced craftswomen. It is also a great opportunity for beginners to gain experience.

Raglan bib on 2 knitting needles

Beginners can use a more complicated and correct version of knitting a shirt-front - the model uses the raglan technique, which makes it possible to accurately, evenly and reliably cover the chest, back and even shoulders of the child. A shirt-front for a boy with knitting needles in a similar way can be knitted in two ways - on two knitting needles, followed by a seam at the back or with the same buttons, as well as in a circle, which is done using circular knitting needles on a fishing line or a toe set (on 5 knitting needles). To begin with, it is recommended to use more in a simple way- knitting on 2 knitting needles, followed by a seam or buttons.

Such a technique is represented by the sequence:

If it was decided to knit a shirt-front with buttons, from the very beginning of knitting, holes for buttons should be made in the usual way and at the same distance. At the end of the work, sew on the selected buttons and please your child with an interesting new thing.

Raglan shirt without a seam

More experienced craftswomen and beginners who have already mastered the technique of knitting a simple shirt-front can use the description of a model knitted without a seam. Here you will have to work a little in using knitting needles - first, knitting will be on 5 knitting needles, then they will switch to circular ones. The complexity of the process lies precisely in the large number of manipulations, but the technique itself should not cause difficulties.

Knitting a similar shirt-front for a boy with knitting needles is a master class with a detailed description:

To start, cast on 92 sts on the needles - use stocking needles. Distribute stitches on 4 needles and start knitting with 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing.
After knitting about 15 cm, switch to circular needles and distribute the loops as indicated in the diagram below. Use the same plastic dividers that helped you master the simpler technique.
Continue knitting already on knitting needles with fishing line. The raglan line in the presented example is somewhat transformed - 2 loops in each front row are crossed (1 loop is removed on an auxiliary knitting needle and taken out before work, 2 loops are knitted, removed from the auxiliary one is knitted). The addition of raglan is carried out as the application of a yarn, which in the above version turns out to be a much nicer result. If there is no desire or experience of crossing loops, you should not strain - use the above description with knitting lines from 2 loops and adding loops for raglan by knitting from 2 loops 3.
In the above example, a relief pattern is used to knit the chest, which will be difficult for beginners to master. Here the knitting technique is used with loops removed on the auxiliary knitting needle, which is always used for knitting braids. This is optional - beginners can use any simple pattern. Sometimes needlewomen combine stocking knitting on the back and shoulders with a pearl pattern for the chest. The pearl pattern is a chess alternation of front and back loops, which is also taken into account only in the front rows. In this version, every 2 rows on the chest part, you can shift the loops by one, thereby embodying the “scales” characteristic of the canvas.
The chest part can also be knitted a little longer than the back and shoulders. To do this, use the second pair of knitting needles, throwing the loops of the chest part onto it - the remaining loops are not touched yet. Separately knit about 5 cm of the chest part with the main pattern, then do the standard decrease in the edges for rounding. Leave the elongated part and continue knitting with basic circular needles. Additional loops are cast on the sides of the chest part - about 20-25, from the auxiliary knitting needles the loops are thrown by knitting them with the main pattern with circular knitting needles, the row ends in the same way.
Finish knitting with two rows of garter stitch - you can use another option. Close the loops, wash the product and dry it.

Knitted shirt without a seam is great for little boys and children with hypersensitive skin - this will save the baby from skin irritation on the neck, which often occurs when there is a seam on the product (especially the skin is vulnerable at the moment active games child and his sweating). If you master the above simple techniques, the given complicated model will not cause difficulties.

A knitted shirt-front for a boy can be decorated with appliqués or self-knitted cars. The photo shows an example of such an ornament - the machine is crocheted, because often craftswomen who begin knitting are good at crocheting. Cars and other decorations can simply be embroidered with a needle and knitting yarn. Otherwise, “refresh” the dark canvas with just a light stripe - this will give the product a boyish look and will attract the child more for constant wear.
