Poncho - clothes for all time

According to historical data, this was the name of the clothing of South America. This wardrobe item quickly became very popular and loved by many people around the world. Today, the fashion for traditional types of ponchos has gone a little, but its latest modifications have received universal recognition.

To link and description are desirable but not required. This product allows you to use completely different yarns and knitting techniques. The choice of material and pattern depends on the purpose of clothing: decorative or warm.

Also, the size of the product will affect the amount of yarn. A crochet baby poncho for a girl will require significantly less yarn than an adult long product. When knitting warm models, it should be taken into account that yarn with a thick thread has a very small footage. Therefore, it is worth focusing not on the weight of the purchased material, but on the total length of the threads in all skeins.

The most common types of ponchos

All existing species can be conditionally divided into two types:

  1. Solid warm products.
  2. Openwork decorative capes.

The former should be knitted from yarn containing at least 30% natural fibers of wool, angora or mohair (optimally 50%). Of course, acrylic can also be used, but it will not heat up, even if the canvas comes out dense and without holes. Rather, man-made fibers will cause the poncho to be either too hot or too cold.

An openwork poncho will keep its shape and be worn for a long time if you use cotton, linen, polyamide or viscose.

Knitting in the round

The classic version of knitting a poncho is in the round. They start knitting from the neck, the dialed chain of air loops is closed into a ring and two loops are marked with a colored thread at an equal distance from each other. Next, knit circular rows, adding loops at these two points.

The general principle of adding is three loops from one loop of the base. This forms a right angle (90 degrees), more precisely, two right angles. Sequential expansion will allow you to get a canvas of a specific shape. It matches the features of human anatomy as best as possible and avoids the formation of too wide a canvas.

For warming, such a poncho can be equipped with a neck, as shown in the photo.

The ability to use different colors and textures of yarn is an undoubted advantage of such a crochet poncho. Schemes and descriptions of other options are presented below.

Model of two rectangles

Stitching two rectangular fabrics is a fairly common method of knitting capes. This is a very simple way, crocheting a poncho (schemes of suitable ornaments are shown in the photo) allows you to use a large number of patterns.

To make a poncho using this method, you should knit two identical strips with the selected pattern and then sew them as shown in the photo. The shape of such a product is fully consistent with the shape described in the previous paragraph. It can be decorated around the edge with a strapping or tassels, and for warmth, a separately knitted collar can be sewn on.

Rectangular poncho

There is another way to create a crochet poncho fabric. Schemes and descriptions of a pattern or individual fragments can be absolutely anything, although it is better to focus on ornaments with a moderate hole size. Sagging fabric can hide the pattern, and it will seem that the clothes are not neatly knitted.

To make a rectangular model, you should associate a rectangle of the required size with a neck hole. For convenience, an opening-cut (“boat”) or a square-shaped hole is left as a neck. When using square fragments of a crocheted poncho, it is convenient to knit using full squares and their halves, triangles. The diagram below shows how you can knit half a square motif.

Wraps that combine elements of different patterns and even techniques look good. The photo below shows an example of how you can knit squares can be any) using a different pattern or knitting.

The disadvantage of this model is the rather wide edges of the product. Each part has the shape of a rectangle, not a beveled trapezoid, as in the previous paragraphs. This feature can create some inconvenience.

Short poncho: cape and cape

A modern modification of the classic poncho is a short cape. It can be knitted from warm woolen yarn, have fur, fringe and pompoms as decor. Also, capes are knitted using openwork patterns and thin threads. They are decorated with beads, rhinestones or Quite often, knitted capes are used for wedding attire or on summer days to protect against solar ultraviolet radiation.

Crocheting a short poncho (diagrams and descriptions are very important here) is done in the round, in back rows or by composing separate fragments. The photo above shows options for openwork decorative ponchos. Like other types of ponchos, the cape can be circular or in the form of an open web with a clasp or ties.

Crocheting a poncho for beginners should not be considered an overwhelming task. The right choice of model and yarn, as well as careful calculations of loops and rows, will help to create an excellent functional piece of clothing.

Poncho is a comfortable clothing that came to us from Latin America. Poncho translated from Spanish (poncho) - lazy and was a rectangular piece of matter with a hole for the head in the center. Nowadays, all kinds of crochet and knitting poncho models have gained great popularity.

To crochet a poncho from squares, you will need: 250 g of sand, 200 g each of curry and brown, 150 g of white yarn (100% sheep wool, 45 m / 50 g) and 150 g of rust-colored yarn (45% sheep wool, 55 % polyamide, 90 m/50 g); hook number 12. With rust-colored yarn, knit with a thread in two additions.

Square (yarn from 100% sheep wool): knit a chain of 4 stitches and close in a circle with a connecting column. Work in circular rows, replacing the 1st double crochet of each circular row with 3 air loops, and finish with a connecting stitch. See diagram.

Sequence of alternation of colors 1: knit a chain of stitches plus 1st circular brown, 2nd curry row, 3rd sandy row, 4th white row.

Sequence of alternation of colors 2: work a chain of stitches plus 1st circular white, 2nd curry row, 3rd sandy row, 4th brown row.

Knitting density: 1 square = 24 x 24 cm.

Back/Front: Knit 4 squares in sequence 1 and 4 squares in sequence 2. Sew the squares according to the pattern with a rust-colored thread with a seam over the edge.

Assembly: sew front and back along the shoulder line as well. Tie all edges with rust-colored thread in two circular rows as follows. 1st round: *1 single crochet, chain 1, skip 1 stitch, repeat from *. 2nd circular row: knit in the same way, knitting single crochets into the air loops of the previous circular row.
