I also made such an elastic band from the remnants of ribbons, but in the end they did not wear it.

Most of the materials were found at home, from the purchased - black tulle, black satin ribbon (on the bottom of the skirt, wings and tail), black ribbon with polka dots, I also bought a hairpin with black feathers, but they did not use it. The teachers said that the costume was very original, and that they had never had such a magpie (and they have been working in the kindergarten for a long time). By the way, for some reason, in all the magpie costumes, the children have a white frill on their chests, although the bird itself has a black brisket, and there is white on the tummy below, on the back and on the tips of the wings. Therefore, our costume is not quite "correct", but we all really liked it)))

Taking a black fabric, fold it in half lengthwise - to get two canvases, the width of which will be approximately 40 cm. The length can reach one and a half meters. Next, you need to measure the length of the girl's arms, be sure to add 10-15 centimeters to the result. This is done so that the wings cover the children's palms and hang down a little. Having dealt with the size, without fear, cut out the black wings for the magpie costume.

It is according to the same scheme that white wings are prepared. The only difference is that they should be made narrower and shorter than the black ones, so that after stitching with each other, the latter can be seen from under the white wings. By the way, in white, then the middle is cut out. The wings are sewn with white thread.

It remains to sew on the back of the elastic - to secure the wings on the palm and prevent them from slipping when the child moves. And the last thing: we sew the resulting part to the outfit itself.

From this segment we cut out one tail (black, long), another white tail (short) and the last one should be black, it will be the smallest. After connecting the parts of the tail, they are sewn together. Then the tail is sewn on the back of the dress or skirt (depending on what will be taken as the basis of the outfit). Unfortunately, I didn’t shoot this stage, because, as I wrote above, I wasn’t going to write an article about it, because I did it all at random, but I didn’t know what would happen. But I made sketches on paper, and now I will tell you everything in detail.

We take a black lining fabric, we have it 80 cm, fold it in half lengthwise to make two canvases, their size will be approximately 40 width and length, depending on the fabric, up to 1.5 m can be. Now we measure the length of your child's arm from the shoulder and add 10-15 cm to this size so that the wings can cover the child's palms and hang down a little.

For black wings, with my daughter's sizes, it took two canvases 40 cm wide and 80 cm long. I didn’t have any template for cutting out the wings, I immediately cut them out on the fabric, as I imagined, and cut them out. If you are afraid of spoiling the fabric, make a template on cardboard, only this very large sheet will need cardboard, you need to draw a wing on it and then cut it out by attaching it to the fabric. Cut out two black wings according to your size.

In the same way, we cut out two white wings from a white lining fabric, but in size they should be narrower and shorter than the black ones, so that later when we sew them to each other, the black wings are clearly visible from under the white ones.

I won't give the dimensions here, you have to adjust them based on the size of the black wings. The only difference is in the white wings, then you need to cut out the middle. When you cut out the wings from white fabric, cut out the middle of both, on the sketch I drew the cut out area shaded.

Now we put the white wings with a cut out middle on the black ones and sew them using white threads. I sewed everything with my hands, although we have a sewing machine, but it’s easier for me).

I recommend gently burning the wings, just don’t burn them) so that they don’t fray, although this fabric doesn’t fray much, there is still a tendency for this, so to make the wings look neat, I burned them with matches, we need a lot of them. You can also use a candle, but I was uncomfortable with a candle. Now we sew an elastic band on the reverse side so that the wings are fixed on the palm and they would not slip when moving.

It's time to sew the wings of a magpie to a dress, or a blouse, or a white T-shirt. I just put the wings on the dress, but so that they did not come off, of course, on the matinee itself, then after the matinee, we calmly and carefully removed the wings from our clothes and we will wear a dress, and someone a blouse.

I was in some thought about what material to use for the headscarf. I immediately imagined a white scarf with large polka dots, but where can I get such ready-made material? I went around all the fabric stores in our city, since there are not so many of them, I found more or less suitable material in peas, but a meter of it cost 250 r, no, well, this is a lot for a scarf for 40 minutes, I thought. And got out of the situation in a different way. For the scarf we need:

Now we cut out black circles from the remnants of the black lining fabric, for this I found a tiny measuring cup, it seems from under the cough syrup, and circled it, then cut it out. Cut circles at your discretion. I didn't count them.

My husband suggested that I make a slightly ajar beak for a magpie and I agreed. we cut out another narrow triangle along the length a little shorter than the beak itself and glue it on the bottom, the daughter painted the inside of this lower beak in red. In order to be able to put on the beak, you will need a thin rubber band, well, you all probably saw what rubber bands and how the masks cling to. We had white elastic bands at home, so we used them.

How to make a tail for a magpie costume

I made the tail in the same way as the wings, only it is much smaller in size, the principle of its creation is exactly the same as for the wings, we need quite a bit of black and white fabric for the tail. Since there is only one tail, we cut out only three details: one black tail is longer, one white is shorter and the third is small black, even smaller than white. I don’t indicate the dimensions, I did everything by eye and cut it out without a template.

Now fold the parts of the tail, as shown in the photo, sew them to each other. Then we sew the tail on the back to the dress or skirt, for beauty and accuracy, I attached a bow a little higher than the sewn tail, so the tail looked more interesting. It turned out that I made only two bows, for a scarf and for a tail.

I also sheathed the bottom of the dress with white tinsel for beauty, but this is already as anyone wants.
