  • coffee or strong tea
  • scissors,
  • glue,
  • ribbon,
  • ready-made decorative elements

Postcard scroll. Master Class:

1. First, prepare the paper on which the text will be. We suggest you crumple the paper. Then straighten it. To age paper, do the following. Brew strong coffee, but not for yourself). Soak a sheet of paper in coffee. Take it out and dry it on a towel. Instead of coffee, you can take black tea, and to speed up the drying process, use an iron or hair dryer.
2. Now let's start processing the sheet and giving it a more aged look. You can tear or scorch the edges of the old paper. Bend the paper at the edge a few millimeters. Tear off the edges along the fold. No need to stick to a straight line, let the gap be crooked.

3. Paper for text is ready. If you plan to print the text on paper, then it is better to do this immediately after the coffee sheet has dried. Glue the blank on the scrap paper with PVA glue. Apply the glue quite a bit and spread it well over the surface. Put the future scroll under the press for a couple of hours so that the paper does not move in waves.

4. Choose decorative elements for the scroll, these can be flowers from polymer clay, beaded jewelry, ribbon roses, small pebbles. We wove a simple flower, based on the flower beading tutorial for beginners.

Basically whatever you see fit. If you don't have anything on hand, decorate the scroll with a pattern. This option is especially suitable for those who draw well. Glue the elements inside the scroll.

5. The last step remains - the ribbon. It may not be glued to the scroll, but in this case it is likely that it will be lost. Apply glue on the outside, on 1/3 of the scroll.

We made such an ancient scroll with our 10-year-old son. The scroll was made after an excursion to the Cheese House Cheese Museum, located in the village of Tomarovka, Belgorod Region, and will participate in an exhibition dedicated to this excursion. From the guide, we heard several legends about the origin cheese and learned about the beneficial qualities of cheese products, the stages of their production, and also tasted the most popular varieties of cheese. Why did we make a scroll? To answer this question, a little background: There are about 700 types of cheese in the world. Cheeses are distinguished by the method of milk coagulation into rennet and sour-milk cheeses, by the method of production - into hard, soft and pickled cheeses. Separately, there are processed cheeses, which are made by melting natural cheese using special salts. Historians believe that it is quite possible that cheese is as ancient as bread, because as soon as people mastered cattle breeding, curdled milk and cottage cheese appeared, which made it possible to preserve milk, albeit in a modified form, but for a long time. Curdled milk and cottage cheese turned out to be the "parents" of cheese. The art of making cheese was already well known in Ancient Egypt during the time of Pharaoh Tutankhamen, who bequeathed to place barrels of goat cheese in his tomb. My son and I decided that if cheese was found in the tomb, then why there would not be a recipe for this cheese.

There are many varieties of scrolls, but we liked just such a scroll, which is twisted from two sides.

At work, I took two tubes from used fax film, we painted them with brown acrylic.
On office paper, I printed the text of the cheese recipe, after which they mercilessly crumpled this sheet and put it on a plate, where they first dissolved it in hot water a teaspoon with a slide of coffee. A minute later, the paper was pulled out and laid to dry on the file. In the open air, the paper will dry for a long time, and if you put it on a battery, the drying process will speed up much.

When the paper dries, we unfold it: if the effect of antiquity does not suit us, then you can take a pinch of instant coffee and sprinkle it (crushing it into small grains in your fingers) in the right places, and then sprinkle a little from the top with a spray bottle and dry again.
After all the manipulations, the paper can be ironed with an iron, putting it between two sheets (so that all the inscriptions and coffee stains do not remain on our iron), or you can leave it wrinkled.

We glue double-sided tape on the upper and lower edges, and glue our tubes to the tape.

But what is a scroll without a name seal?

We tie a string on the upper tube, leave one end long (we will then tie the scroll closed with it), the other short.

We take any household candle and drip wax onto the file, creating a round shape. The wax hardens quickly, but not as much as we would like, so when you see that the wax begins to drain (since there is a lot of it) from the intended circle, put out the candle and wait a bit for the wax to harden ... and then light it again candle and drip again.
When our circle becomes more or less plump, we put our tied whip on it and drip wax on it until it is visible.

Since we have a scroll from Egypt, the seal will be with the pharaoh (I have a beautiful spoon brought from Egypt). You can use a beautiful embossed button or brooch, or make a wooden seal.
We look for the wax to harden a little, but not completely, and press our spoon into it.

Coloring our print brown acrylic paint from two sides. The paint must be thick, otherwise the wax repels it.

Well, the print is ready! (indistinguishable from sealing wax)

We wrap our recipe in a scroll, and tie it on top long end whips.

And in this form, our scroll will participate in the exhibition.

Thanks to everyone who looked!!!

I hope our MK is useful to someone !!!

I really liked not only the master class, but also the history of its idea. The author not only made an excellent scroll, but also fascinating story talking about cheese.

Making a scroll with your own hands is interesting idea. From this subject breathes antiquity, which in itself is fascinating. It can be used as an invitation to solemn events. It is safe to say that guests will be delighted, because they are not often seen in ordinary life. How to make a scroll with your own hands? Very simple. If you are interested, then let's take a closer look at this issue.

What should be used?

When preparing any celebration, it is very important to think through each stage. One of the most important is the invitation, because it is he who is the business card, indicates the direction and sets the tone of the holiday. A do-it-yourself scroll will look creative and fresh against the background of boring ordinary invitations. You can make this option at home, the main thing is to follow the sequence.

To make a scroll, you need to prepare everything you need:

  • paper - preferably watercolor, if not, then any will do;
  • strong brewing of tea or coffee;
  • soaking container;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • ribbon;
  • decor.

Manufacturing process

At first glance, it may seem that it is difficult to make a scroll out of paper with your own hands, but this is not at all the case. The process is fascinating and creative, you can involve children, they will be interested. Let's take a look at what and how to do in order:

  • The first thing to do is to brew strong tea or make coffee, let it cool down a little, the liquid should not be too hot, it is better to let it be a little warm.

  • To give the paper an old-fashioned effect, it must be crumpled, then smoothed well with your hands.
  • We cut out the paper of the required size and lower it into a soaking container, pour the brewing solution on top and leave for 10-15 minutes.
  • After the time has passed, it is necessary to dry the sheet on newspapers, a towel or a hairdryer, this will be the fastest.
  • It is necessary to process the edges - cut off or burn. In the second option, you should act quickly and accurately - the paper should not catch fire, otherwise all efforts are in vain.

  • Now you can do the design of the invitation or congratulations. The text can be written with a pencil or paints, each time dipping into water so that the inscription is a little blurry - this will add a special charm. You can print a pre-selected verse on paper and carefully glue it. Very little glue is needed, after that you need to put the scroll under the press so that it does not deform.
  • Optionally, we add various decorative elements - ribbons, seals or stamps.
  • You can tie a scroll with twine and a polymer clay print, you can also attach it to beautiful sticks and roll it up on both sides. Any of these options will look original.

Scroll Computer Design

The design can be done on a computer, a variety of programs allows you to select all the elements that you want to see on the scroll. Such programs can be found on the Internet and downloaded, in addition, you can use the online editor. It allows you to create pages of the desired format and save them to your computer. In the future, only printing and design. Making a scroll with your own hands must be done in accordance with the points indicated above.

Sometimes for different ancient theatrical performances some accessories are required, here I am one of them and I will show you how to create. I will teach you how to make a paper scroll with your own hands and at home. In the old days, decrees, laws or messages were written on a similar scroll. This scroll will fit well into a theatrical performance, and will also serve beautiful accessory for any room or collection of ancient things.

The method of creating a scroll is very simple, but it will take a long time to spend on it. Due to the fact that the paper dries for a long time after getting wet, and this is exactly what we will need to do. This method is called a tea scroll, since it is in it that we will give antiquity to paper, or rather, soak a leaf with tea.

Make strong black tea and dip paper into it. Let the leaf lie there a little, in order to darken and become woody, antique. After that, you need to get the future scroll and dry it.

Carefully hang the scroll on clothespins, on a rope just so that there is no sun. The workpiece dries in the summer for about an hour. You can, of course, put it on the battery in the winter.

When the sheet is dry, you can write whatever you want on it. If you know how, you also need to write in a special semi-antique handwriting.

Now we need to make sure that the scroll is twisted, for this we need Chinese chopsticks. We separate them, since at the beginning they are solid at the end and glue them along the edges of the sheet. Then we twist each side into a tube. And if you don’t need to unroll the scroll, then glue both halves too, and if necessary, just fix the scroll with something so that it remains twisted.

Here we created such a paper scroll with our own hands. The most important thing is to give the paper the right color. And twisting is very easy.
