Dress for a doll. How to sew a puffy dress for a doll with your own hands Sew a dress for a doll in stages

Dolls will forever remain girls' favorite toys. They are for babies - and faithful girlfriends, and daughters in the game, and fashionistas, who also need to be taken care of and dressed in style.

To make your princess doll look like a lady-in-waiting from her retinue, you can try sewing some trendy modern outfits.

Basic Rules

To understand how to sew clothes for your daughter's doll, you need to remember a few simple rules:

  1. Dolls are created in the likeness of the human body, so all the outfits are sewn according to the example of the human, only in a format reduced several times.
  2. Like a person, to determine the right size of clothes, the doll takes measurements on the most protruding parts of her body. For example, for a T-shirt, you need to take measurements of the width of the shoulders, chest and hips, the length of the desired product, the width of the armholes of the head and arms. Sometimes the widest part of baby dolls is the waist - in this case, you need to measure its girth.

For tailoring trousers and skirts, the circumference of the waist and hips, legs at their widest point, the length of the desired product are measured. And for socks - the length and width of the doll's foot.

For sewing doll clothes, you should not buy a new fabric. Rummage through the bins: you probably still have large patches of bright fabric from past sewing, old unnecessary things. Use them to make doll clothes with your own hands.

football mood

T-shirt is the most difficult piece of clothing to sew. But if you master a T-shirt for a doll, you can easily overcome all other items of clothing.

For sewing, the necessary materials are:

  1. The right size fabric
  2. Threads to match
  3. Scissors
  4. pins

Be sure to take the necessary measurements from the doll before starting the process.

  • Take 2 identical pieces of fabric of the required size for the front and back of the T-shirt. For each measurement add up to 5 millimeters of overlap for the seam.
  • If you have a figured doll, trace curved lines on the scraps of fabric along the curves of her torso and cut it out taking into account the overlap - the T-shirt will turn out to be tight-fitting. If you want a straight cut T-shirt, skip this step.
  • Using scissors, form a cutout of the required shape and armholes for a C-shaped sleeve, taking into account the overlap. Armholes need to be cut on both parts, cutout - depending on the shape.

  • Process with additional small oblong patches the cutout so that the "raw" fabric is not visible.
  • Sew the 2 pieces together near the neckline.
  • Measure 2 semi-circular patches for the sleeves, process their edge according to the example of the cutout and sew to the armholes.
  • It must be remembered that the last two steps must be performed only with wrong side products, so that with it outside there were no seams or darts.
  • Sew the remaining parts - the sleeves and sides of the T-shirt.

Now you can safely try on an outfit for your doll.

Complete wardrobe

In addition to a T-shirt, every self-respecting doll should have a whole bunch of fashionable clothes!

  • Trousers

If you want classic or light trousers, choose knitted fabrics of the desired color, if jeans, you will be fine dense fabric dark blue. If the trousers are conceived from light fabric, you can sew the same top for them - you get a summer outfit.

It is better to sew trousers according to the pattern using the necessary measurements for the doll and laps. With the help of a pattern, measurements are taken from the fabric and flaps of the required size are cut out, which are swept to each other and sewn together. The seams of the armholes must be processed.

These pants have an elasticated waistband to keep them from falling off the doll's waist - don't forget to thread them through the holes in the pants waistband.

For a skirt, you can take a light flying or cotton fabric - they will hold well nice shape bell.

Take the necessary measurements - waist circumference and length of the product. Cut a piece of fabric with a difference to the waist of about 1: 2 in length. The width of the flap is the length of the product.

The top of the skirt at a distance of about a centimeter from the edge is stitched with the widest hand stitch, after which the thread is tightened, forming beautiful folds.

To process the upper edge, a rectangle about 1 centimeter wide and approximately 2 centimeters long is taken, tucked to the edge and sewn.

Next, the place where the edges of the skirt are sewn is marked. Leave about 2-3 centimeters free to the top edge, and sew on a button and a kind of loop for fastening on the top edge.

The skirt can be decorated by stitching the bottom edge with lace or by adding a second layer. So the skirt will turn out even more magnificent and elegant.

  • Socks

What outfit can you wear without socks? For socks, take a light, stretchy fabric that does not unravel. Trace the doll's leg on thick paper to about the ankle or slightly higher. Cut out the template.

Fold the fabric in half and attach the template with the instep of the foot to the fold of the fabric. Circle, cut and sew. Repeat operations to get 2 socks.

Lush puppet ball gown "Green Rose"

Almost every little girl loves to play with dolls and of course dress them up in different outfits. This master class on sewing a puffy dress for a Barbie doll will help you please your princess. The dress that is proposed to be sewn consists of a top and a skirt of the "sun" type, as well as a fluffy petticoat.

Dress for a doll with dimensions: 9 cm waist, hips 13 cm, chest 12.5 cm. The length of the dress will be about 18 cm from the top of the bodice to the bottom edge, it will be just below the knee. For this you will need:

1. 40 cm by 24 cm tulle;
2. 25x30 cm crystal or satin;
3. 2cm Velcro;
4. 1 meter bias tape;
5. thread elastic band for petticoat;
6. beads and ribbons for decoration;
7. threads according to the color of the material;
8. Velcro.

We take the tulle, fold it in half, cut it, we get two strips 12 cm wide and 20 cm long.

We grind the edges of the tulle.

We process the edge of the petticoat with an oblique trim, it keeps its shape well. Before sewing, you can baste the inlay so that it does not slip out when sewing, and the edge is neat.

Now, with the help of a rubber band, we make a small assembly of tulle. We tighten the elastic band - it turns out a magnificent petticoat.

Let's start sewing the upper part of the dress. Making patterns for dolls is quite difficult, so we proceed as follows. We apply a piece of crystallin 5 cm wide to the bodice of the doll and fix the undercuts on the chest and back with pins.

We make a sketch of our workpiece. Two undercuts in front on the chest and on the back, we wrap the edges, taking into account the overlap for Velcro. We burn the lower edges of the bodice.

We sew all the seams and sew on Velcro. It is rare to find a very thin Velcro, so just cut the one that is. Buttons can be used instead of Velcro.

On a larger piece of crystallin, draw a circle with a diameter of about 28 cm with soap, and cut it out. Do not draw by hand, use a compass or a centimeter.

We also cut out a circle in the center so that the doll passes. And singe the edges, as the crystal and satin crumble. The scorched edge is neat, so you can leave it unfinished. The dress will be airy and the edge is not weighted.

We will make the belt from an oblique inlay, sweep it all together and grind it.

We decorate the belt with beads and satin ribbon. We alternate small beads of beads with sticks. We sew with a thin fishing line. We sew the tape to the belt with small overlaps. Also, it was possible to leave the edges of the ribbon long and make a bow at the back.

And here is the result of all the work. You can also, if there is material left, make a hat!

From this article you will learn how to sew a dress for a Barbie doll with your own hands. This beautiful and original outfit will appeal to any girl who loves to dress up her toys. We have prepared for you step by step instructions And helpful tips so that you can easily cope with this craft. Also in the article there is a pattern of a dress for a doll, which you can simply print out in order to effectively continue working. We note right away that this master class is also suitable for beginners - the instructions are clear and rather easy to follow.

For sewing this outfit, it is best to use a dense, durable fabric like brocade. So a homemade dress for a doll will look more beautiful on Barbie - you get a real princess outfit. The velvet also looks good. Another good option is satin fabric, but it is more difficult to work with, and if you are a beginner, it is better to save this idea for the future and choose something else. However, you can use almost any fabric you have on hand. With proper decor, the dress for the doll will still turn out to be very beautiful.

We will need:

  • fabric for the base (about a meter);
  • lining fabric;
  • strong threads for sewing;
  • braid for finishing;
  • pins;
  • Velcro or zipper.

First you need to make a pattern. It may be more convenient for you to simply print it out and transfer it to the fabric. The size of the dress pattern for the doll is 9 × 34 cm. Make the main part, collar, sleeves and hem.

First of all, let's deal with the processing of the collar. Cut out two identical parts. At a short distance we make markings in order to sew them together. The edge of one of the details needs to be cut along the entire length so that the hem of the doll dress comes out more beautiful. We sew the collar from the wrong side, leaving an opening for the eversion. We need to make two such details.

The pattern of the main part of the dress for the doll must be cut out twice - from the main fabric and from the fabric for the lining. Please note that in the front of the future dress you need to make a small assembly. This is necessary in order to outline the waist, and leave the space for the chest freer. The collar is sewn to the fabric for the outer part of the dress.

We sew the main and wrong side of the dress. At the same time, please note that incisions are made on the throat hole, and this part is sewn on the same principle as the collar.

Let's make flounced sleeves. To do this, we use the pattern presented above. First, we assemble the main part with an accordion and fix it. We do this with the help of the second part (rectangular). Then we straighten this detail as in the second photo. We iron, make an external hem and hem.

Sew the sleeves to the main part of the dress. This must be done manually from the wrong side.

It remains for us to make the hem of the dress for the doll. To do this, you need to estimate the waist circumference of Barbie and make the appropriate pattern. The easiest way is to draw a semicircle on paper. Its radius is equal to the desired length of the hem. We make a standard assembly and fix it with a rectangular part (as we did with the sleeves - the principle is the same). The hem is first sewn to the top of the dress, and then sewn along the seam. Leave a small hole so that the outfit can be easily put on the doll. We sew a small hidden zipper or Velcro into this hole.

Everything is ready - we sewed elegant and Nice dress for a Barbie doll with your own hands. We just have to decorate it with a beautiful golden braid along the edges of the sleeves, collar and hem. You can add a decorative ribbon to the belt (it makes sense to do this if the seam around the waist does not look too nice), embroider it with beads or sequins, etc.

Try to make some of these dresses from different types fabrics, changing the length of the hem and sleeves and the splendor of the collar. Any girl will appreciate such a variety of her favorite doll's wardrobe.

She fulfilled her long-standing desire - she sewed a dress with puffs and embroidery for the Paola Reina doll.

The study of the art of embroidery on puffs is still ahead for me. This time there was a pen test. Very hasty test - I wanted to see at least a small result as soon as possible.)

I made a pattern for the dress following the example of master classes that I saw from other masters. It was possible to take someone else's free access or buy a paid one, but I wanted to make my own.

Several times I came across information on the Internet that a pattern can be made by wrapping a doll with tracing paper and masking tape. In the photo, in such articles, everything looked beautiful and uncomplicated. Therefore, one day, armed with a doll, narrow masking tape and tracing paper, I set about creating my designs.

She overlaid Carol's paolochka with tracing paper, which she pasted over with masking tape.

I did not get as beautiful as I saw in the photo of other masters, but acceptable.

Then I drew the lines of the neck in front and behind, shoulders, armholes, waist and middle. You can make other lines as needed.

She carefully cut the tracing paper and removed the resulting pattern from the doll. You need to cut the details of the workpiece very carefully so as not to scratch the body of your pet. Use sharp and thin scissors for this.

On the doll, I cut only along one line of the shoulder and the line of the side, and the second - I cut it by removing the blank.

In the following photos, I try on a pattern with a neckline and armholes already cut along the lines. I look at how the planned neck and armholes will look on the doll.

As you can see in the photo, I drew two variants of patterns at once. On the left, a more closed neck, and on the right, a deeper one. I also made the armhole on the right a little differently than on the left.

The resulting parts of the patterns were cut in the middle of the body. Thus, I received two sets at once to create different dresses.

I laid out the pattern on paper and circled it, painted lines for clarity. I made this dress for him.

My conclusions about this way of creating a pattern:

  • For a good winding with tracing paper and adhesive tape, the doll still needs some skill. That is, it may not immediately turn out neatly.
  • When creating a pattern on paper, you need to take into account the additives for free fit. When I sewed the first dress according to my pattern, I forgot about such additives. The dress turned out to be close to the doll, but with a lining it was a little tight. It will be uncomfortable for a child to play with such a dress.
  • It is necessary to correctly outline the line of the shoulder. This is also not so easy from the first stroke of a pencil. I think that I will customize my first pattern in this area as well.

Then I drew a collar along the neckline on paper, folding the front and back patterns with shoulder seams.

I borrowed the sleeve pattern from Venus Dodge's book "We sew clothes for dolls":

If you use the patterns from this book, pay attention to the size of the seam allowances included in them.

First samples.

With sleeves. Such a narrow sleeve looks beautiful, but for spread fingers, the doll is narrow in the cuff area.

Favorite photos of working moments. 🙂

The result is this dress.

There is a slit on the back, which gives the dress a special charm. Instead of buttons, beads, and eyelets are made of thread with a buttonhole stitch.

Lace sewing. Particularly suitable for this dress.

When I took pictures, I didn't see that the dress needed to be adjusted for Liu. I will replace the photo later with better ones. Next time I'll show you the same dress on a paolochka with a torso issued until 2015. This time the model will be Nora.

How to make the puffs themselves with embroidery and the order of stitching the details of the dress peeped in the blog: http://poupeecouture.canalblog.com/archives/2013/01/16/26165697.html.

For a long time I have been studying material available on the Internet about sewing dresses with puffs. This is not the last product from me with such a decorative element.

So Liu thought about what dress we will sew next. I need to dress up the rest of the girls.

With this dress, I participate in the Spring Ball competition, in Oksana Lifenko's group https://vk.com/kasatkadolls?w=wall-95724412_5476. Join the competition. Oksana came up with very "delicious" prizes.

I highly recommend Venus Dodge's book "We sew clothes for dolls". I will talk about it in one of the following articles.

Update February 17, 2016:

Instead of tracing paper, you can use cling film. Next time I'll try to make a pattern with it.
