Do-it-yourself tumbler toy. Master class with step by step photos. Piggy bank toy "Tumbler" made of waste material (middle group) Do-it-yourself roly-poly from Kinder

Marina Suzdaleva

Walking along the shelves with the so-called educational toys for children, I came to the conclusion that my 5-month-old daughter does not need such a gift from Santa Claus for New Year. On the one hand, all these toys seem to me somehow of the same type, on the other hand, Yegor left a lot of such toys (after all, in his first months of life, I was not yet an enthusiastic mother and bought everything that I could “reach out to”), moreover But, Vasilisa, of course, as yet there is no business either with gifts, or with Santa Claus, or with the New Year. Nevertheless, a couple of days before the New Year, the “super mom” inside me still woke up, and I decided to make a gift for Vasilisa myself - make a do-it-yourself toy. The whole evening I drew sketches of a future toy - at first I had an idea to make it in the form of a snowman, then in the form of the head of Santa Claus, and finally (probably inspired by what we recently held), I settled on what I would do roly-poly Christmas tree.

For work I needed:

  • large plastic container chocolate egg;
  • materials for making a tumbler - we have plasticine and a handful of screws;
  • Iris threads in three shades of green and brown, hook No. 1.5, scissors, needle;
  • beads to decorate the Christmas tree and give it additional sensory value;
  • filler for the top of the Christmas tree - I used a rustling bag, you can use any other lightweight filler like synthetic winterizer that will not shift the center of gravity.

My sequence of actions was as follows:

As you understand, the Christmas tree itself or any other figurine for your tumbler can be sewn with your own hands, made from a lost sock, children's tights, gloves, paper, plastic bottle etc. etc., well, I’ll write how to tie a Christmas tree like mine, for those who, like me, with a hook for “you” (because those with a hook for “you”, without my description tie such a simple Christmas tree).

The easiest way, of course, is to knit a Christmas tree in one color, but I wanted to use three colors (development of color perception and all that). I alternated the colors every 3 rows, and in every fourth row I made an increase. Of course, I didn’t come up with such a cunning scheme myself, I previously reviewed a hundred or two master classes. Looks like the source is somewhere here. In the course of knitting, I knitted beads in random order. For perfectionists specially found detailed video about how this is done “according to science”, because I probably won’t be able to describe in words how I knitted them (the main thing is that it turned out very strong):

Crochet Christmas tree:

1 row: We start knitting from the top. Whoever knows how, starts with an amigurumi ring, and in the old fashioned way I dial a chain of 5 air loops, close it into a ring and knit 6 single crochets into the ring (hereinafter referred to as st.b.n.).

2 row: 2 st.b.n. in each loop of the previous row = 12 st.b.n.

3rd row: 12 st.b.n.

4th row: 12 st.b.n.

5 row: change the thread to the second shade, 12 st.b.n.

Recently became a mother of a baby?

6 row: (1 st.b.n., 2 st.b.n. in one loop of the previous row) * 6 = 18 st.b.n.

7th row: 18 st.b.n.

8 row: change the thread to the third shade, 18 st.b.n.

9 row: 18 st.b.n.

10 row: (2 st.b.n., 2 st.b.n. in one loop of the previous row) * 6 = 24 st.b.n.

11 row: change of thread to the first shade, 24 st.b.n. etc.

When the cone reached the height I needed (I tried on the width of the egg, so that the egg began to taper below the knitting edge), I knitted a couple of rows with decreases and took up the trunk. The trunk was knitted simply in a circle with a brown thread, adding 6 st.b.n. in every second row. (In general, here I already knitted by eye, trying on the base of the egg.

I connected two parts of the Christmas tree with one row of single crochet posts, after filling the top of the Christmas tree with a rustling bag and inserting a tumbler egg inside.

Our tree is ready! Vasilisa and all of us liked her very much. And you? You can see our roly-poly Christmas tree in action on my Facebook page - here here.

A roly-poly doll is a toy familiar to everyone from early childhood. Bright, smiling, always ready to play with the baby, is considered the safest. Promotes the development of coordination, imagination, hearing, perception of colors. The child does not get tired of watching the tumbler doll rise from a lying position. In our country, these toys are also called "Roly-Vstanka". It is curious to know what is the history of the roly-poly doll and whether it is possible to make it yourself.

Story

Experts suggest that the very first toys were brought to Russia from Japan. It is believed that the idea came from the hermit monk Bodihidharma, who lived in the 6th century. He came from India to China to form the Buddhist sect "Zen", which means "meditation, concentration." The hermit, who was named Daruma, was engaged in prayers for 9 years, eventually coming to enlightenment. All the years he did not move or blink (according to legend). From prolonged immobility, the monk's limbs withered away, so the Japanese roly-poly doll is made without legs and arms.

In our country, toys appeared in the early years of the 19th century under the name "tumblers". At first it was merchants, clowns and girls on the ball. They were made from linden, cut with a knife or a lathe. At first, halves were made, in one of which a weight was attached. After that, the parts were glued, painted, dried and taken to the fair. In the first toys, a bell was placed inside, making a pleasant sound when swinging.

In the USSR, tumblers were made of plastic and looked like a bear cub or a little girl.

In the Tambov region, in Kotovsk, in 2012, a monument to a tumbler was opened.

Description

The traditional roly-poly doll, which can be described by any person born in the USSR, has Round eyes, bright outfit (usually blue or red), smiling face. Between the head and the body are two balls - handles.
Standard roly-poly dolls are baby dolls, bears and hares.

Principle of operation

The roly-poly always stands upright. For this, the following condition must be met in the design of the toy: the center of gravity is located in the lowest place. If any attempt to change the object's body causes the CG to rise, the balance is stable.

In the lower part, the tumbler doll has a heavy hemisphere. At the slightest inclination, the center of gravity of this hemisphere rises.

Sound

Previously, a bell was inserted into the toys, which rang with every tumbling movement. But today's toys chime for a completely different reason: a metal or cardboard cylinder is fixed inside, in which a ballast is placed. Metal rods are inserted around the circumference. In the middle, a metal plate is suspended on a wire, which hits the bars - this is the sound that the roly-poly doll makes.

Kinds

Today, a doll can be made from any material and have different kinds. It can be the hero of your favorite cartoon or computer game, a superhero from a comic book or a fantasy creature. But there are also tumblers depicting real people, most often these are political leaders of various countries.

They make toys from plastic, wood, glass, metal, improvised materials.

Application of the principle

Today, the principle of maintaining balance is used in various subjects, and not only for children. These can be chess, toothbrushes, mugs, water containers when drawing with paints, phone stands, stools and other household items.

How to make a tumbler yourself

A great gift for any kid is a tumbler doll. How to make it? Very simple. Especially the child will like it if he takes an active part in its manufacture. To create the simplest small Roly-Vstanka, you need an ordinary chicken egg, a candle and heavy metal objects: nuts, balls from a bearing.

In the egg, it is necessary to carefully make a hole from the sharp end through which the contents can be removed. Pour the protein and yolk, dry the shell. After that, place heavy objects inside. Place them carefully so as not to break the shell.

To prevent the load from moving inside the egg, it must be strengthened. You can do this in two ways:
1. Light a candle, tilt over the egg and drip paraffin until it completely covers the load.
2. Finely chop the paraffin from the candle, pour it into the egg and gently heat over a fire until it dissolves. Then let it harden and cool.

Pour or drip paraffin so that the load remains in the middle of the bottom of the egg.
After the candle material has solidified, the toy needs to be completed: close the hole with a hat or thread hair, draw a face, clothes.

Now the roly-poly can be put in any position - if it is done correctly, it will always return to the vertical position.

You can make a toy not only from an egg, but also from other materials. You can, for example, use the packaging of a chocolate egg surprise instead of the shell. You can stick eyes using pill blisters. You can attach various items to the shell or packaging using PVA glue.

Needlewomen can make a doll out of fabric. To do this, you need a box from a kinder surprise, fabric, scissors, threads, a needle, beads or other weighting agent.
Several blanks are cut out of the fabric: a large rectangle, a medium square and two small squares. Cut out a triangle for the scarf.

To make a body, a rectangle must be sewn so that a fabric pipe is obtained. Tighten one side of the pipe with threads to make a bottom. Unscrew the pipe. Fill a plastic container from a chocolate egg with beads or small pebbles. The heavier the container is packed, the more stable the tumbler will be. Put the box on the bottom of the fabric bag, fill the remaining space with filler (cotton wool, synthetic winterizer, holofiber, foam rubber, polystyrene, etc.). Pull the top off to close the pouch.

Similarly, make ball handles and a head, not forgetting the filler. Sew all the details together. Handles should fit snugly between head and body. Embroider a mouth, eyes, designate a nose with a pinch. Put on a scarf from a prepared piece of fabric on your head. However, you can decorate a tumbler in any way - make hair, a hat, a cap, come up with clothes for her.

If you have experience working with wood, you can carve a figurine out of wood. The balance of the doll can be given in the same way as in the case of the "egg" model. To make the toy make sounds, you can leave a few beads or screws in a free position so that they rattle, entertaining and attracting the baby.

A handmade toy will not leave indifferent any child, because even very young children understand that it was made especially for them.

A review of the roly-poly doll makes it clear that for almost 200 years of its existence in Russia, the toy has become a national feature, loved by many generations of children who grew up with the roly-poly.

You will need:

  • Round box (from processed cheese)
  • white and brown cardboard sheets
  • corrugated paper different shades of blue color
  • glass ball
  • piece of wire
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • adhesive or electrical tape

1. Remove the lid from the box and cut it in half (cut the edge in the form of "waves", as shown in the photo).

2. Using a template, make a drawing of a “ship with a mast” and from cardboard folded in half Brown color cut out two identical parts. Glue them together. Cut a sail out of white cardboard and glue it to the mast.

3. cut strips of corrugated paper different shades of blue. Stick them on outside boxes - you get a "sea". Also stick a few strips on the inside.

4. Attach the ball inside the box with duct tape. With an awl, pierce through the box and the "hull of the ship." Thread the wire and bend its ends.

The cut lid of the box can be used as a template to precisely match the parts when connecting them with wire.

The sea on which your boat will sail can be made from any paper, not just corrugated paper.

Round tumbler. Craft from the box

Open the box, from the inside to the side of the box, attach the ball with insulating tape and close the box with a lid.

Cover the box with thick plain paper.

Cut out the decorations and glue them on both sides of the box.

You can decorate it with bright stickers.

The round tumbler will roll until it encounters an obstacle on its way.

Smiling face, round Blue eyes, bright outfit and amazing ability to return to its original position. The grandparents of today's hyperactive toddlers, who are merrily and surprised trying to knock over their favorite toy, remember very well the Roly-Vstanka of their childhood. The roly-poly doll was one of the first entertainments of several generations. The current "tumblers" can differ significantly in appearance, bringing the same joy. You can make a toy with your own hands. Improvised materials, a small amount of time, fantasy - a roly-poly doll toy is ready.

Facts and legends

The toy owes its origin to the mysterious East. The legend claims that the prototype of the "Roly-Vstanka" was the ancient one who for a decade kept a vow of silence and immobility, as a result of which he lost his arms and legs. Further, a roly-poly doll, the description of which is found in ancient books, came to Japan, isolated from the rest of the world for a long time, having received the name "darum" after the name of a hermit monk. The toy is credited with the ability to grant wishes. Eyes are not drawn on the face. The one who received a daruma as a gift draws one eye, making a wish, its fulfillment is marked by the other eye. Otherwise, the tumbler is burned, following the tradition, on the eve of the next New Year. To Europe and Russia original children's entertainment, which has become a favorite for many generations, was brought by travelers.

The Russian version got a head, a cheerful smile, national clothes. There was a headdress, a musical instrument. Stabilizing abilities, sound effects appreciated. Soviet industry for many years made the mass production of "Vanka-Vstanka".

Design tricks

The tumbler doll has a simple rounded shape. The main feature - to rise from a lying position - is due to the physical principle of stable balance. The correct location of the load inside the lower part of the daruma is the main rule of manufacture. Guided by this law, it is easy to determine which takes a vertical position, swings in different directions, turns around its axis.

  1. Vertical lift: the load is installed at the bottom of the cavity, always fixing it motionless (filled with paraffin, wax).
  2. "Swinging somersault" is performed by securing the load on a flexible basis.
  3. By adding a rigid pin with an articulated mount, they achieve. By creating a complex trajectory for moving the sinker, you can “teach” the tumbler to turn and swing at the same time.
  4. Craftsmen attach a load, connect it with an elastic thread, a thin spring with handles and legs. The roly-poly doll balances like an acrobat, takes steps.
  5. The pinnacle of the art of making modern daruma is ferromagnetic fuel. A suspended magnet helps the liquid to overflow, Roly-Vstanka dances.

Fantasy and creativity

A huge assortment of factory-made toys, bright and cheerful, expensive and not very expensive, makes it possible to please the baby with an interesting, unobtrusive gift. A do-it-yourself tumbler will bring pleasure not only to the child, but also to the mother. Older children can be attracted to joint work, the process will strengthen family friendships. Any hollow vessel with a round bottom will serve as the base of the toy. The best option is the body of everyone's favorite chocolate egg. Having fixed a weight on the bottom of the vessel, the plastic container is filled with beads of different sizes, materials, and weights. The result is a beautiful rattle. Outside, the toy is sheathed with bright shreds, painted with cheerful colors.

Lovers of wood crafts can carve a hollow toy from a suitable tree, install a sinker, decorate, varnish. Such a souvenir will be an excellent gift not only little child, parents will be happy to receive a masterpiece specially made by their own hands.

The original figurine for the holiday is obtained from the usual eggshell. The insides are blown out or poured out, the resulting container is washed out, a small load (nut, heavy bead) is carefully lowered down, fixed with wax or paraffin. The first way: drip with a candle until the entire weight is covered, the second: finely chop the wax, fill it up and warm it over a low flame, after fixing it in the correct position. When the base hardens, they draw a smiling face, put on a finished hat, cap, bow ─ a unique gift is ready.

branded toy

The classic face of your favorite toy has long gone out of the standard. The roly-poly doll, the photo of which can be seen in the article, depicts a favorite cartoon character, the hero of a computer game. The author's fantasy helps to give the tumbling doll the features of a beloved offspring, which will make the game more fun. Lightweight ping pong ball will make the toy handy and compact for the little ones. Small size will allow you to make a swinging "family". By painting the little men with different colors, by drawing numbers or letters, they create an additional educational game tool.

Learning by playing

The six-month-old boy happily plays with the new "Roly-Vstanka". Simultaneously distinguishes when swaying, develops fine motor skills, happily rocking the pet.

A two-year-old future man gives his favorite toy "tasks" - to guard the castle, the young lady teaches how to sit at the table correctly, monitor behavior, repeating the rules that she hears from her parents. Description of the toy, learning to count, and much more is much more pleasant to learn with your favorite tumbler.

Functional souvenirs

Childhood memories are the most vivid. The first toy is associated with joy and good mood. Tumbler doll, presented to a friend, a loved one for his birthday, family holiday, strengthen warm relations. A souvenir can carry a functional load. By placing a small clock mechanism in a tumbler, they build an excellent alarm clock that always keeps its balance. A young mother will be pleased to receive a non-pouring cup for her baby as a gift. The whole trick: a rounded base with a load is glued to the bottom of the plastic cup, preventing the dishes from falling, keeping the balance.

Fantasy and love will help in the work.

Recently went to the store building materials and saw how the workers were removing the bushing from under the linoleum from the showcase. And having learned that the sleeve would be thrown away, I asked her to put it aside. The next day, our physical education instructor and I took two bushings. Larisa Viktorovna left one for the gym to make posts for running around with a snake. And the second, I asked one parent to cut into rings. These rings became the basis of the craft.

Tumbler toy.

DIY materials: bushing from under the linoleum (cut into rings of 5 cm, colored cardboard, White paper, scissors, PVA glue, felt-tip pens.

First I drew a silhouette Tumblers: for the body - I circled a small plate along the contour, and for the head an inverted cup. According to this sample, I cut out two blanks of the same color for each child from cardboard.

I cut out a large circle from white paper - the face and two small ones - the hands.

I glued the face on the head and drew facial features with felt-tip pens, and glued the arms on both sides of the body. The body can be decorated "buttons".

The bushing ring was smeared along the cut line with PVA glue and glued on the back side on the body Tumblers closer to the bottom edge (so that when rocking a toy returned to its original position).

Then I smeared the ring with glue on the other side and glued the back to it Tumblers. This is how it turned out toy Tumbler.

Piggy bank Tumbler.

The sequence is the same as in the manufacture Tumbler toys.

Just to make a piggy bank, before gluing to the sleeve, in front of the torso Tumblers you need to make a slot for money. Now, for beauty, we glue an apron under the slot.

Piggy bank Tumbler is ready. When the piggy bank is full of money, simply tear off the back, take out the money and seal the piggy bank with a new back.

All the guys did an excellent job. They really liked that crafts can be played with.
