Soft rug from old fabrics (photo)

You will need:

Scissors

Pieces of old (unnecessary) fabrics, you can use old clothes

Bath mat (with holes)

1. Cut the fabrics into small strips (see image)

2. Using tweezers or a crochet hook, begin to poke the strips through the holes.

3. Tie all fabric strips in a simple knot.

Ready!

How to make a knitted rug

You will need:

black marker

Threads of different thickness

Scissors

Jewelry (optional)

1. Cut out a large circle from cardboard.

2. Draw lines on the circle as shown in the image. Start with a line going horizontally, then vertically. Next, divide the quarters of the circle into halves, etc.

3. After you have the desired pattern, make cuts of 2-3 cm at the edges of the cardboard circle (where your lines end).

4. Start tying the thread around the cardboard circle, passing it through the cuts. On the front of the circle, everything will look neat, but on the back, the drawing can be a little chaotic - that's okay, because. we only need the front side.

5. When you have threaded all the lines, tie it into a knot.

6. Prepare all the threads of different thicknesses and start knitting in a spiral, starting from the center of the circle. Insert each thread as shown in the image (above the knitting needle - below the knitting needle). To begin with, you can thread the thread through 2 knitting needles at once.

7. At the end you will have a beautiful rug that can be decorated with pompoms, for example.

Do-it-yourself rug from old towels (master class)

You will need:

old towels

Scissors

Sewing machine (needle and thread)

1. Cut your towels into several strips. In this example, each strip is about 3 - 4 cm wide.

* For convenience, you can fold each towel in half, cut into 2 halves. Fold each half in half again and cut into fold lines, etc.

* It is desirable that all towels are approximately the same size.

2. Fold together 3 strips of different colors and secure them with threads (sew the ends). Start weaving a "pigtail" from these strips. After finishing weaving, stitch the ends again.

3. Make several of these "braids" and then connect them into one long strip with a needle and thread (or a sewing machine).

4. Start rolling your long strip into a spiral, securing it with thick thread.

5. Fasten the entire structure and turn it over so that the seams are on the bottom.

How to make a "French Bracelet" rug

You will need:

Old fabric 2 colors (you can use old T-shirts)

* The width of each piece of fabric is 20-25 cm and the length is 3 meters. If you are using old T-shirts, then you can connect several pieces with a thread and a needle.

Scissors

Needle and thread

adhesive tape

1. Lay out 5 strips of different colors in the order you want them to look on the future carpet.

2. Next to the 5 laid out strips, lay 5 more strips in a mirror image.

3. Take the first strip, in this case pink, and tie it as shown in the image. First, bend the fabric so that the number 4 is formed.

4. Continue tying the pink stripe around the rest of the stripes until you reach the middle.

5. Start doing the same on the opposite side, tying another pink strip around the remaining 4 strips. Start also with the number 4, but in a mirror image.

6. When two pink stripes meet in the middle, tie them together.

7. Repeat the same with the subsequent, remaining strips.

*Choose the length of the rug yourself.

8. Start another rug, choosing the same colors. After that, connect both rugs with a thread and a needle.

* If you wish, you can make one or more similar rugs, which can then be sewn into one large carpet.

9. Extra parts can be cut off, and the ends can be secured with a thread so that they do not spread.

Rug woven from shreds

You will need:

Dense canvas (basis for carpet)

Pieces of fabric

black thread

Scissors

Adhesive for fabric

adhesive tape

Protective coating spray (if desired)

1. Choose the size of the carpet and prepare the right size carpet.

2. Prepare long strips of fabric. Each strip should be about 6-7 cm longer than the main part of the carpet.

3. Prepare a few bunches of 3 strips and start weaving a "pigtail". You need several blanks, then to combine them into one carpet.

* For convenience, secure the ends of each blank with duct tape.

* Do not weave to the end - leave some fabric unwoven.

4. Apply glue to a dense canvas. No need to skimp on glue.

5. Gently place the blanks on the canvas so that they stick.

6. Connect all the workpieces to each other with a needle and thread.

7. Remove the adhesive tape from the ends. Trim the ends so they are even.

Round foot mat made with a hoop

You will need:

Lots of thread

old t-shirt

Carpets have been handmade for many centuries. To create an exclusive accessory for decorating your own home, you can use the most various materials in the form of threads and yarn, ropes and plastic bags, lids, terry towels, pebbles from the sea, corks, etc.

The first thing that can be said about starting a master class on how to make a rug with your own hands is a manifestation of imagination, the application of perseverance and patience, and then you can create a unique product without difficulty.

And if you fill the rug with a removable pad in the form of an abrasive filler, then it will turn from a decorative one into a massage one.

The photo of the rugs shows that do-it-yourself flooring can be made from pre-prepared pompoms or pile threads, by knitting, weaving or weaving.

Knitted floor products

To make a knitted product, you need to prepare the following materials

  • cardboard sheets,
  • marker pen,
  • threads of various thicknesses,
  • scissors,
  • hook number 7 and above (can be replaced with knitting needles).

First of all, air loops are collected in the amount that corresponds to the rectangular size of the future carpet. To make a round product, it is enough to dial five air loops, connect them with a ring, and then, adding them in a circle, tie the workpiece.

For convenience, they came up with the “patchwork” technique, when several parts of the canvas are harvested, and then they are all sewn into a single product.

Pompom products

To make a rug from pompoms, you should get:

  • yarn,
  • crochet,
  • scissors,
  • construction mesh broken into cells, which will serve as the basis of the carpet.

Thread pom poms are easy to make. To do this, threads are wound on fingers or cardboard blanks.

Wicker patterns

A unique wicker product is made of thick cardboard at the base of the rug, multi-colored threads of different thicknesses and twine. The circle is divided into 32 sectors, which are indicated by a pencil.

The threads are intertwined with twine from the center, while it is necessary to monitor the density of the rows. At the end of the work, the cardboard is removed.

Woven copy

For the weaving process, it is necessary to prepare:

  • frame,
  • stick,
  • threads for the warp and villi,
  • a strip measuring 3 by 20 cm made of cardboard,
  • scissors,
  • thick needle.

Woven floor cloths consist of threads of the longitudinal and transverse directions, which intersect each other in a checkerboard pattern.

Such a product is obtained with the same image on both sides, therefore it can be double-sided.

Fabric and fur rugs

Soft ball-shaped fabric cushions can be used to make an attractive rug. For this, blanks are prepared.

Note!

A piece of padding polyester is laid out in the middle of each of them and the edges are sewn along the desired diameter. The resulting balls are fixed to each other.

old gizmos

Rugs from old things can be made by anyone who has accumulated unnecessary T-shirts, T-shirts and other knitwear.

For work you will need:

  • construction mesh, divided into large cells,
  • thick crochet hook
  • strips cut from old things.

A strip of fabric is placed under the prepared mesh in the center, and the ends are brought out with a hook and tied tightly. Side by side, in the same way, the next strip is threaded and also tightened with a knot.

Knitting is carried out in a spiral until the entire mesh is filled. From such strips, you can make pigtails in advance and lay out a carpet from them.

Note!

Patchwork canvases

For the manufacture of patchwork home-made rugs, you need to purchase materials in the form of a base for the product, scissors, patches, needles, fabric glue and adhesive tape.

Separate patches are sewn into long ribbon, then cut into strips, from which braids are woven. Then these braids are laid in rows close to each other and sewn together with threads.

Cloth of two contrasting rugs

I use two floor products various colors, it is possible to create a unique piece with a zebra print.

On a darker canvas, future light stripes are outlined. The necessary stains are cut out of a light rug. In a dark carpet, the same cutouts are made in places where light ones will be placed.

Then all the prepared elements are glued with tape. Such an unusual and soft copy can become a favorite rug for children.

Pebble carpet

Such a massage mat is made of smooth pebbles, a rubber mat, and a high-quality adhesive composition.

Note!

Before sticking the stones on the rubber base, they should be thoroughly washed and dried.

Other materials for creating carpets

A rug obtained by gluing flowers made from banknotes.

Carpet fabric knitted from strips cut out of colored plastic bags.

A copy of plastic bottle caps, which are fastened with fishing line.

Cover made from wine corks.

Photo of do-it-yourself rugs

Why there is a carpet in the house, there is no need to explain. Do-it-yourself rugs are made by many lovers of home creativity, getting useful products from the remnants of thread, yarn, or simply unnecessary rags. Among the samples of home carpet weaving, there are not only those that are not inferior to the best industrial designs, but also unique highly artistic ones that are not subject to machine technologies, see fig. And all this - with minimal costs, and even for free.

Archaeologists consider the carpet to be the oldest household item: before guessing that you can wear a skin, a person made a bed for himself. Carpet weaving and carpet weaving are also ancient crafts, and here handmade still firmly holding its position. For example, a pom-pom rug is very difficult to mechanize with automation. But at home, a pom-pom bedside rug can be made in half a day, and it will be more convenient than a factory one, and it will look better, see below.

Homemade and homemade rugs

The same applies to rugs made from old things. Their utilization by industrial methods is not very profitable and the purchase prices for used rags are not encouraging. And the unnecessary clothes transformed with your own hands into a carpet will still serve on the farm with benefit.

In this article, we will see what and how to make do-it-yourself rugs for home and garden. But, unfortunately, large floor and wall carpets and rugs will have to be touched upon only in passing, this is a separate big topic. And napkins, table runners, furniture covers and small wall rugs woven using the macrame technique need only be mentioned at all - this is no less an extensive topic, technologically connected with carpet weaving.

In this publication, we will deal with small rugs, colloquially referred to as rugs. As you can see in the photo above, they are not necessarily “grandmothers”, sheltered in the kitchen or in a nook by the door, although rugs are needed there too. A rug can be both a highly aesthetic product that decorates the living room, and a durable hygienic product in a room with high humidity and / or in a room prone to pollution. Or even street, if the rug is intended for the country. All this diversity stands, in general, on three pillars: material, execution technique and supporting base.

Technique and basis

From the variety of homemade floor mats, eyes run wide. But according to the technique of execution, they are divided into a relatively small number of varieties:

  • Sewn- technologically the most simple, but requiring additional materials (threads) and equipment for industrial production: a sewing machine. On an ordinary household 1-needle machine for a needle up to No. 100, it is possible to sew a completely solid and beautiful rug.
  • Woven (knitted) rope mats- no additional materials are not needed. Very practical, racks, but the appearance is rather monotonous, although elegant. They require increased attention and accuracy in work, but a lot is said about the skill of the author of the product to a connoisseur.
  • Woven from scraps of fabric- they require quite a lot of work, but not difficult; material is suitable free junk. The appearance of patchwork carpets that came out of skillful hands can be simply amazing. To make them, you need the simplest manual loom - krosny - see the video below. Crosnas for small rugs can be made at home in half an hour or an hour from improvised materials, see below and at the end.

Video: do-it-yourself patchwork rug

  • Wicker (knitted) crochet. Rugs are not knitted on knitting needles, because. knitted needles products are designed primarily for vertical loads. Whole-knit rugs are most often made round (see the figure below); a round rug made in a different technique will not be durable. Solid knitted rugs require quite a lot of skill, but a novice craftswoman can quickly and easily crochet blanks for embroidered rugs.
  • Knitted over a woven or semi-rigid mesh warp- these are fleecy carpets up to "real" patterned and "grass" rugs in the bedroom or nursery, in which the foot gently sinks. “Grass” rugs are no more complicated than sewn ones and less labor-intensive, but a purchased base is needed; however, inexpensive, see below. Patterned fleecy carpets, which look not inferior to Persian or Khorasan ones, can be woven at home on crosses, but it will take a lot of work, attention and artistic taste.
  • Knitted without warp- are most often made from pieces of plastic film, for example, used bags. It is possible to discern artistic merit in them only with a fair amount of imagination, the service life is up to 6 months, but you can make such a rug in just half an hour. They are hygienic, have shoe-cleaning properties and are easy to clean themselves: dried, shaken well - and that's it. Ideal as a doorway to the cottage and in the shower / sanblok in the same place. Not recommended for living rooms: in a dry room with a non-conductive electric floor, static is intensively accumulated.
  • Type-setting from natural solid mineral or elastic organic materials or their imitations with or without a base. Natural minerals are very expensive, and when self-made, they are very laborious. Organics (wood, cork; occasionally - horn and bone) on the floor are not very hygienic, wet slippery and wear out quickly. Imitation of minerals is quite laborious, but doable at home (see below), the raw materials for it are inexpensive, and the aesthetic effect can be excellent. Mats made in this way are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use with virtually no restrictions.

The traditional basis of the carpet is a coarse woven knotless mesh. Colored threads, which give a fluffy front surface with a pattern, are either woven into it when weaving, or, bent in half, are caught by weft threads to the warp. The contours of the drawing are drawn in advance on the basis stretched on the machine. For floor carpets, incl. type-setting, building glass mesh is perfect as a mesh base; in this case, the threads that create the face are tied to it. For embroidered rugs, coarse natural technical fabric, cotton or linen is most often taken as the basis: canvas, tarpaulin, matting, burlap. Wool and silk are not suitable, because. easily electrified. Synthetics are suitable for clothing: kapron, lavsan, etc.

Rags and rugs

Home-made rugs are made mainly from natural plant textile and knitted materials: old wearables, yarn, thread, rope (twisted rope) or cable (braided rope). Synthetics in indoor rugs should only be used for wearable items due to the same static electricity; it, through bare feet or in slippers, has a very bad effect on health. We will return to the imitation of natural mineral materials, but the above is enough about solid / elastic organic matter.

For the totality of qualities best material for floor mat denim, especially since old jeans a lot often accumulates in the house. And the easiest way to sew a rug out of jeans is to cut them into pieces. desired shape and sew from the inside, top left in fig. A denim rug (top right) will look acceptable in any interior, as will denim clothing in any setting, except for the stiff official.

Appearance and methods of making a denim carpet

If you are not too lazy to “set the jeans cooler in style”, you can sheathe the blanks along the edge with a braid of a contrasting color (on the left in the middle), such a rug will fit into a modern interior. And for rooms of archaic-rustic design or, say, to the country, from jeans loosened into ribbons, you can weave a “grandmother's” rug by hastily building crosses (see at the end). Elementary techniques of "grandmother's" weaving are shown in fig. at the bottom. 2 denim colors, front and back, enough to get a pretty pattern. A torn old sheet will go as a basis; strips are twisted into bundles.

Note: in the process of weaving a denim carpet, it may be necessary to connect the weft strips, either to bring out the pattern, or simply not enough. The weaving knot is not suitable in this case, because. the fabric is dense and the knot will turn out big. Jeans ribbons are connected in the same way as when weaving a patchwork rug without a loom, see below.

Tights

The second class of things suitable for rugs is tights. How to make a tights rug, see the tutorial video below:

Video: do-it-yourself tights rug

Other junk

Lightweight wearable items can be put on the mat with the most different ways, see e.g. next video. However, when they are trampled lying on the floor, the wear resistance of the products leaves much to be desired.

Video: how to make rugs from old clothes

If the original item is knitted, say, the rug is from old T-shirts, then larger pieces are cut out of it without seams, piping, etc. Pockets rip off. Then the blanks are dissolved into ribbons, braids are woven from them, and a rug is sewn from the braids, see fig. Threads - no thinner than No. 20. Hemming the base of technical fabric is required; without it, the tights will soon stretch and quickly wear out.

Making a patchwork rug sewn from braids

Weaving strips for a patchwork rug

This technique is not suitable for printed fabrics: threads will crawl along the edges of the tapes, and holes will crawl under the fastening threads. In this case, the workpiece is first cut into even strips 5-7 cm wide, each tape into 4 more identical strips, without cutting through to the end. Then straps are woven (see the figure on the right), and from the straps a rug is woven / weaved over the base of the sheet, like a “grandmother's” denim carpet. The finished rug turns out to be respectable: the double texture speaks of a high class of work.

Note: sometimes whole rugs are woven using the same technique, cutting the workpiece not immediately to the end into 8, 16, 32, 64, etc. narrow stripes. But due to the displacement of the transitions of the tapes, the carpet is obtained either with an oblique or with a zigzag edge, depending on how to weave the adjacent fours, one into one or mirrored.

Here the question arises: how to cut a thin fabric into ribbons of the same width, especially narrow ones? To do this, the workpiece (and then wide ribbons) is folded with an accordion, leveled (it does not hurt to iron) and pinched with clothespins. Then, little by little, all the kinks are cut at once, starting from the end, and the clothespins are removed as they are cut.

Wicker mats

Mats-mats made of rope are distinguished by enviable resistance and durability. They look good too. They are mainly used as bedside legs and tabletops. their length is 40-45 rope diameters, and their width is about 1.25-1.5 times less. Materials, except for the rope, do not need any, as well as special experience. Schemes of weaving rope mats are given in fig. At the heart of the first, pos. 1-5 is a regular straight knot. Weaving at one end (running) in 5 passes. The rope will need 35-37 rug lengths, i.e. 1200-1500 of its (rope) diameters. It's not scary, in meters it will come out 13-17 m.

Rope weaving patterns

The marine rug (pos. a-f) is so named because it was an indispensable accessory for a sailor's bed in the old days. In the sailing fleet, a sailor who did not know how to make a hanging hammock bed for himself and weave a mat for legs in a set was considered a rookie, despite any merits and length of service. The marine rug is knitted in 3 passes on weight. The rope (approx. 20% longer than for the previous one of the same length) is folded in half and braided with 2 ends. The marine rug is narrower and longer, its weaving is more frequent and finer. In terms of labor intensity, it is the same as before. you need to straighten not 5, but 3 ends.

The variety of rope rugs woven on the basis of the same or other flat knots is not limited to these samples, pos. 1-3 next. rice. But this is already much more difficult work, and it is not possible to dwell on the details of which here. As for carpets made of rope decorative elements (brandenburs, etc.), sewn onto a woven base (pos. 4) or glued from a single piece of rope, pos. 5, then in terms of strength and durability, these products are more decorative than for everyday use.

Rope mats

Trying to weave...

For the manufacture of a small, approx. up to 40 cm long, a woven rug made of threads, yarn or fabric ribbons / plaits at first and crosses are not needed. A rectangular piece of cardboard and a dinner fork will suffice. Holes for the base are immediately pierced with a fork: lines are drawn along the short edges of the cardboard “machine”, at a distance of 3-5 cm from it. The first 4 holes are pierced along the line with a fork, then the fork is shifted by 3 teeth so that the last one gets into the last hole already pierced, 3 more holes are pierced, etc. Cardboard is cut to holes; the warp thread is carried out in one piece, shifting the loop under the edge petals - “pegs”. Leave the ends of the base approx. 10 cm.

Note: it is not necessary to take a cardboard longer than 40 cm, in work it will bend under the tension of the threads.

Then weave, as usual, pos. 1-2 fig., only instead of the shuttle you will have to use a gypsy needle; the shuttle will not pass between the cardboard and the fabric. After spending 4-10 weft threads, depending on its smoothness, we tamp the fabric with the same fork, pos. 3. We unwind the weft obviously in excess, because its missing thread is tied from the inside, which in this case is not available.

How to weave a rug without a loom

Further, the ends of approx. 10 cm and glued to the "stand" with adhesive tape, pos. 4. When the entire warp is woven, they are held with a needle for at least 8-10 weft transitions from the wrong side to the face, pos. 5 and are cut off.

The next stage - at one of the ends of the base, we remove 3-4 of its loops from the petals and insert the free end into them, pos. 6. We tighten a little, but we don’t cut the “tail” yet! We do the same with the other end of the warp thread.

Now the base can be completely removed from the "pegs". We put the rug approx. for a day on a flat smooth surface for self-tightening of the fabric under the action of residual stresses in the threads. If the loops of the base after this have not yet been completely tightened, we smooth the mat, pull it up, shake it until it is tightened. Now you can cut the "tails" of the base - the product is ready for use!

In a similar way, you can also weave rugs from the remnants of yarn or patchwork from ribbons / plaits (remember - jeans, tights, rags?) These and other materials can be used together, but the warp and weft must be uniform. They are collected from separate threads / tapes, fixed with knots, on the left in fig. It remains to decide how to connect the threads / ribbons, the length of which is not enough, or to bring out the pattern. As for the threads, then on a cardboard “machine” - no way, you need to take whole ones. And 2 ways of connecting tapes are shown in the same place in the center and on the right. First, you can connect the ribbons very short, but the joint will be visible. The second joint is invisible, but the overlap of the ends is needed from 4-5 cm.

Weaving a patchwork rug on a piece of cardboard and methods for connecting patches

... and knit

Carpets, as already mentioned, are crocheted. In general, this is not easier than knitting, only properties finished products are somewhat different. There are many patterns of crochet rugs on the Internet, but for beginners, in order to at least understand legend loops and operations, you would have to absorb too much training material. So let's start with the basics.

How the first loop is made when crocheting is shown on the left in fig. This is already enough to, passing the loop in the loop, impose pigtails for an embroidered rug. And on the right, it is also given how to tie the next row to the previous one.

Basic crochet techniques

So you can already make a one-piece knitted rug, even round, see another video:

Video: knitting a round rug

Here it happens with experienced craftswomen, a problem arises: she knitted it exactly according to the scheme from the recommended material, and he took it and kicked it out with a hump (cap, dome). The fact is that it is possible to increase the length of the outer rows, drawing 2 of their loops into one previous one, only with an integer number of loops. It can't be irrational like pi. Exactly the length of the row for an experienced knitter is adjusted automatically, by tightening the loops. But a person is not a robot, everyone has different working skills. A scheme developed by someone under their own hands may not be entirely correct for another.

However, it is not necessary to dissolve the finished rug and bandage it, and there will be no sense. If it came out not quite like a jester's cap, it can be aligned according to the following instructions:

  • We prepare hot water for soaking, 55-60 degrees (the hand barely tolerates it);
  • We breed PVA in it at the rate of 1.5-2 tbsp. spoons for 10 l;
  • We soak the rug without crushing;
  • While it gets wet, prepare a hard, smooth, moisture-resistant substrate. Ideally - a piece of plywood covered with plastic film in 2-4 layers;
  • When the water has cooled to a little warm (32-35 degrees), take out the rug and lay it out on a drying mat. It is not necessary to keep it in water until it cools down completely, the effect will disappear;
  • If the substrate is plywood or wood, we additionally unpin the rug with pushpins;
  • Upon complete drying, the mat connected according to the proven scheme will definitely level out. No - look for flaws in the work. An insignificant admixture of PVA will not hurt to dissolve the product.

This method of molding woven products was once invented by Soviet black market workers and underground guild workers to make "self-made" jeans stand up like a "firm". Then it was adopted by knitting enthusiasts. Jeans of the then quality are long gone, but the PVA seems to have not deteriorated ...

More about round rugs

Aesthetically, round patchwork rugs can be excellent and even outstanding, see fig.

They don't have to be one piece at all. Firstly, they can be sewn, as described above, on a coarse textile base of woven or knitted braids (in this case, only braids) wound in a spiral. But strength and durability will not be higher than that of other embroidered carpets.

Weaving a round rug from patchwork braids on a hoop

The second way is weaving from braids on a radial basis from a cord on a hula-hoop hoop, see fig. on the right, gives a solid product, but the “blamba” in the center is a rather difficult problem, as a result of which this technique is rarely used.

Very beautiful and quite durable round rugs, and patchwork embroidered, are obtained in the so-called. patchwork technique. Its essence is that the patchwork details are sewn into fragments of the pattern, which are sewn onto a coarse-woven base, see the plot:

Video: patchwork home rug

fluffy grass

Real patterned fleecy carpets are an immense topic, like the whole history of carpet weaving. But making a small simple rug-grass at home is not difficult. The first way is knitting with knots to the construction grid. Propylene (this plastic is practically not electrified) or nylon fluffy cord allows you to get a pile up to 5 or even 10 cm high, pos. 1 next. rice.

If you don’t want grass, but something like a densely planted lettuce, a fluffy rug can be imposed from shreds. In this case, so that the pile does not fall off, the shreds are taken wider so that the knots slightly burst the mesh cells, and knit in a checkerboard pattern, pos. 2.

Two simple ways making fluffy rugs

In both cases, if there is a pattern, it is drawn in advance on the base grid, pos. 3. Knit a simple bayonet in knots. This knot is very reliable, does not feel with bare feet and is easily knitted both by hand and crochet, pos. 4 and 5.

The second method, firstly, gives a soft rug that can be rolled up and machine washed. Secondly, a dense, non-falling pile up to 7 cm high is obtained from ordinary knitting yarn. How such a rug is made is clear from pos. 6-9. The width of the cardboard mandrel for winding pile strips is according to its desired height. Finished strips are attached to a coarse woven base.

Some explanation, however, will be needed for pos. 6 and 9. If tailoring after winding the strips is not supposed to be done immediately, then the uncut edge of the layer should be basted with a mark of 1 full and 3/4 of a half figure eight, this is the so-called. eight 7/4. How it is done is shown in pos. 10. The number of turns in one clamp is not necessarily 4, it can be 10 or more, depending on the smoothness of the yarn. The hairier it is, the more turns you can grab with one loop of the figure eight. The strip swept in this way can roll around in the chest of drawers as much as you like without spreading.

At the final tailoring, the first strip of pile is attached, straightened. Then its threads are bent to the non-working side and the next one is attached as close as possible, etc. The edge of the base in the finished rug will look a little, so it is sheathed with braid.

Pompom rug

It's time to remember such cute, soft and original pom-pom rugs. They are done as before. case: pompoms are tied to a building net or sewn to a cloth base. But how do you make the most pom-poms? A lot of the same or given sizes, beautiful, neat?

It is not necessary to look for drawings and descriptions of certain devices or machines for making pompoms, as some sources advise. Excellent pompoms are obtained as shown in fig. “Technological equipment” from a pair of scraps of cardboard is reusable; enough for a whole carpet of pompoms.

Making a pom-pom for a rug and other purposes

Pompoms can also be multi-colored if the winding is made from threads of different colors, only of the same thickness. It is not necessary to somehow connect the ends of the threads, anyway, after all, the twist will be cut.

And if you want the pompoms to be smooth? Also without problems: we take a piece of synthetic winterizer or fleece, crumple it into a ball, fit it with a suitable fabric and tighten the tail with a thread. The fabric, by the way, can also be silk: synthetic winterizer and fleece have antistatic properties and will divert electrical charges.

Where and how is plastic suitable?

Fans of plastic film sometimes make rugs that are amazing in appearance and subtleties of work. But it is still impossible to recommend them for residential premises. In dry rooms, plastic is easily electrified, and, say, in a bathroom, water stagnates in its folds. What kind of a living community will soon be formed, it’s better not to look through a microscope. Especially - familiar with the beginnings of microbiology.

Plastic foil mats can be used in other ways, e.g. as a doorway and / or street in the country. Properly made rug plastic bags removes dirt from shoes, although not as good as special cleaning coatings. Cleaning it comes down to drying and shaking out, the material costs pennies, and you can make a new such rug in 10-30 minutes as follows:

  • The package is rolled up into a flat roll and tied with ribbon; you can also use a tourniquet from a film, pos. 1 in pic;
  • The tourniquet is tightly pulled together, the edges of the package are cut off, pos. 2;
  • The blank is fluffed by hands, pos. 3;
  • Several blanks are connected in the likeness of a pom-pom, pos. 4;
  • If the diameter of the pompom (20-35 cm, depending on the size of the bags) is too small, several of them are tied together or tied to a building net.

Rug of ... stone

Rug made of artificial stones

The stone rugs are original, see fig. on the right, and massage the feet. True, it is not always pleasant to stand barefoot on a cold stone, but this is not so bad. The main thing is that it is simply unrealistic to find in nature how many smoothly rounded pebbles of equal thickness are needed, and buying a choice is unrealistically expensive.

In all respects, it is better than a natural stone rug made from substitutes for rounded pebbles made of polymer clay (plastic, cold porcelain). Do polymer clay do it yourself at home in the kitchen; starting materials (starch, PVA) are inexpensive. One sourdough (parking) is enough for 1-3 pebbles, depending on their size, and you can imitate not only cobblestones, but also many semiprecious stones, see pic: selenite, jade, amazonite, jasper, onyx, carnelian, agate, even lapis lazuli, malachite, heliotrope and charoite. A rug made of gems, which also does not cool your feet - who's to say that it's not so cool?

Some semi-precious stones

The use of plastic for the manufacture of stone rugs has, in comparison with its other uses, some features:

  • A substrate is prepared in advance - a solid shield covered with a film.
  • The base of the construction mesh rug is laid on the substrate.
  • Containers (vessels) are also prepared for ripening the mass of the total volume, which is obviously greater than the total volume of stones, in an amount equal to the number of colors used.
  • The mass of the required flowers is prepared quickly so that they all ripen together at about the same time. Each color matures in its own container.
  • Immediately after the maturation of the mass, without shifting it to storage, stones are molded and laid on the base of the rug, slightly pressing down so that the mesh is pressed into them. This should be done in thick enough latex gloves so that there are no traces of palms and fingerprints on the stones.
  • After 2-3 hours, when the crust dries on the stones, they are leveled in height, pressing down the speakers. Be careful not to crack the thin crust!
  • Transfer the substrate-tray for drying to a warm, dry shady place.
  • Dry until completely dry, based on a full cure rate of 2 mm per day.
  • The almost finished rug is carefully turned over. Falling stones (rarely, but it happens) are glued with PVA.
  • At the crosshairs of the grid falling on the stones, 1-2 drops of PVA are allowed from a medical syringe without a needle.
  • Dry for another 2-3 days, and the rug is ready.

Carpet weaving at all times among all peoples, under any political system and economic system, has been and is a highly profitable occupation. A margin (rise) of 200-300% in this case is an ordinary phenomenon. But do not rush to get into a credit swamp to purchase equipment and develop handicraft production on the basis of only one theory: the requirements of potential buyers for the quality of carpet products are also traditionally very high.

To begin with, it does not hurt to watch a master class on the manufacture of homespun carpets.

Then - get a weaving machine for carpets. Simple and inexpensive, but suitable for the production of commodity-level products. Its base is a solid bed; wooden - from a bar from 40x40 or plywood from 20 mm, pos. 1 in fig. If you have an old window frame lying around somewhere, carpentry work is no longer needed.

Weaving equipment from improvised materials for carpets

The next - guide pins for threads, pegs. Here, modernity is better than antiquity: pushpins-markers with a long neck (pos. 2) are just what you need. For handicraft work, they, in comparison with steel and wooden pegs, have a number of advantages:

  • Cheap per item.
  • Established by feminine forces. To screw in several hundred threaded steel pegs or put in the same number of wooden ones - the work is still the same for a hardy peasant, and a child also sticks buttons into a pine tree.
  • Easily rearranged, practically without spoiling the wood.
  • In size, if stuck close to each other, they are just right for weaving rugs.
  • By placing pins in a checkerboard pattern, you can give the warp and / or weft of the fabric denser, and by placing them at intervals - less often.
  • When installing the pins from the buttons as tightly as possible, both the thread and the tourniquet or pigtail will pass into the windows between the necks.
  • The smooth, slippery necks of the buttons will ensure uniform tension on the threads of the fabric.

The dearest faithful to the manufacture of the machine can also and should be harnessed: let him make a comb from a wooden (preferably oak) bar and segments of knitting or bicycle knitting needles a comb across the entire width of the window of the bed for duck stuffing. In extremes and with a fork, you can stuff, as described above, but with a comb, the work will go faster and better.

The next one is the shuttle. The fishing shuttle is not suitable for weaving nets; it is designed for rather complex manipulations of knitting knots. When weaving, it will have to be turned over all the time, and the consumable loops should be dropped, making movements with the fingers, which is very tiring in an already difficult weaving work. A salted and tanned fisherman, who has just tied a net, can be recognized by crooked “crab” hands. The smooth shuttle-spool easily dives into a very dense base, but it also needs to be turned over, which slows down the work, and high-quality materials and metal work will be needed for manufacturing.

For weaving rugs, an old-style hand weaving shuttle is best suited. His drawing is given above in pos. 3. Material - hard wood, plywood, hard plastic 2-4mm thick. How the thread is started on this shuttle is shown in pos. 4. A consumable skein is thrown onto the beak with loops alternately from one side and the other. To remove the next loop, the shuttle is fed back, it will come off the beak itself. This must be done when the shuttle is outside the base.

Finally, tying a new thread to the end. How to build tapes and harnesses, said earlier. And the thread is tied with a simple weaving knot, pos. 5. There are other weaving knots, but for sufficiently thick and strong carpet thread, this is the most suitable.

Well, if things went well, you liked it, and your customers liked your creations, then you can think about how to make or order a real weaving loom for carpets with your own hands.

Each handmade item is an original, stylish and unique interior decoration. An attractive and bright interior detail can be a handmade rug. There are many options for making such a product, and even not the most experienced needlewomen will be able to cope with them.

Mat made of fabric strips-macaroni

Required materials and tools:

  • Special mesh for carpets, which can be easily bought at a hardware store or a craft store. It is more convenient and faster to work with a grid that will have large cells.
  • Thick crochet hook: it is important that it leads freely into the cell of the selected mesh.

  • Knitted ribbons, they can be found in the closet with old things. It is necessary to go through the wardrobe and find knitted T-shirts that no one wears anymore. Rip the T-shirts at the seams and cut into strips five centimeters wide and about 12-15 cm long.

It is important! To make a medium-sized rug with your own hands, you will need to cut up to twenty T-shirts. If there is no such number at home, you can visit the nearest second-hand store.

To make cutting a large number of strips faster, you can turn on your favorite movie. When all the shreds are cut, they must be scrolled in washing machine without adding any detergents. You should get the shape of pasta tubes, which will give the rug a mysterious and very interesting design look.

Now comes the moment of creating a rug with your own hands. The grid is placed on its knees, a box with prepared tissue pasta tubes is placed on the right. A hook is held in the right hand. It is more convenient to start making a rug from the center. Macaroni is placed along the grid, and then with a hook, its two ends are pulled out. It is necessary to tightly tie the fabric with a brace to a knot on the nylon wall of the cell. The second strip is also stretched, it is necessary to move in a spiral until there is no empty space left on the grid.

It is important! If the rug in this technique is made with your own hands for the first time, then it is best to take a rectangular grid. When the hand is full, you can safely master round and oval shapes, play with colors.

Rug from knitted ribbons

For this rug, you also need to make strips of the workpiece according to the principle indicated above. But for the manufacture it is not necessary to use a grid, a regular piece of fabric is suitable for the base. A good double-sided tape should be glued on the base in rows and then a row of knitted pasta ribbons should be laid in turn. Lay out the tapes evenly.

When the first row is laid, it must be stitched in the middle and proceed to the second. In the second method, the carpet will be thicker, and many prefer this natural shaggyness to the ordered knots of the first method.

Carpet made of fabric elastic balls

To make such a rug with your own hands, you will need even more patience, because you will need to prepare elastic fabric balls. For this, it is taken dense fabric and using a template, circles of suitable length are cut from it. A filler is placed inside each mug, then the fabric is stitched with a thread along the diameter and pulled together. The resulting balls must be sewn together with ordinary strong stitches. You can do this in rows, you can use the principle of a spiral or not try to achieve any symmetry at all. It will turn out a pimply rug, on which it will be very pleasant to walk barefoot.

Rug in country style (grandmother's style)

Such a rug has always been in the homes of our grandmothers and the fashion for products of this kind is returning again. If there is no grandmother nearby who can reveal the secrets of ancient craftsmanship, this guide will help.

You need to take any fabric and cut or even tear it into strips. Weave the stripes into colorful braids, which are laid in a spiral, and then sew with large stitches using thick threads and a large needle. Looking such products are very elegant, it is important to choose the right colors for the fabric. It is not necessary to spin the spiral. Alternatively, you can cut wide strips and weave large braids that are easy to lay next to each other and secure well.

American Style Knitted Rugs

Weaving do-it-yourself rugs from knitted leftovers is loved in America. Stripes of knitwear should be wound into balls. Thick chains are crocheted from them using air loops. The multi-meter chain that will turn out is twisted according to the principle of a spiral and lived. In this way, not only can small rug but also a large carpet.

It is important! household sewing machine such a fabric will not stretch. If it is not possible to use a special industrial sewing machine, the seams will have to be done manually (it will take a little longer to make the rug).

If you like this method of weaving carpets, you can diversify it and achieve even greater originality. For example, some make small rugs, which are then combined into one composition. Here it is important to choose the right colors so that the resulting product fits well into the overall interior.

Making rugs and even carpets with your own hands is not at all difficult, but it will take a lot of time and patience. If you take the classics as a basis, you can always come up with something new and extremely original. The main thing is the desire to create and focus on results!
