Lush do-it-yourself petticoat for a girl. How to sew a fluffy tulle petticoat. How to sew a petticoat without a base

Or a hobby related to rock and roll. After all, models with just such an element received another development in the 50s of the last century. And before that, back in the 16th century, petticoats were used to shape ordinary products. With their help, the female figure received a thin waist and rather lush hips. In addition, a fluffy element of underwear the best way brightened up the flaws of the silhouette.

Before sewing a petticoat, you need to choose the right material for it. Usually, cotton articles are taken for this, because. they are quite cheap, silk, lace, mesh, or a combination of both will also work. In the latter cases, especially when using lace materials, the cost of the resulting product can be sky-high. The general rule is that the lighter the fabric of the main skirt, the stiffer the fabric of the petticoat should be.

After choosing the material, you need to decide on the length of the product. It may be shorter or longer skirt if done from beautiful fabric or has spectacular ruffles. How to sew a petticoat so that the silhouette looks harmonious? To do this, it should not be very short (usually the length is not taken less than 0.5 meters for adult options for medium height). Next, we buy fabric. For the most common model - “Tatyanka”, which is a simple, wide skirt gathered at the waist, you need a length equal to three centimeters hip circumference at the seams. The width of the material in this case will be the minimum length of the future product.

If you want to know how to sew a petticoat correctly, then you should start with pre-treatment of the fabric. Cotton samples must be pre-washed. Steam all fabrics to determine the possible shrinkage of the material. Next, the desired length is cut off, and the resulting rectangle is folded front sides inside. The side sections are overcast, after which they are stitched together at a distance of two to three centimeters from the edge. The seam undergoes heat treatment with steam.

How to sew a petticoat quickly? To do this, you do not need to think about the complex processing of the belt. It is processed to the hem, so that there is a space of one and a half centimeters for threading the elastic (with the help of followed by stitching the ends). In some models, you can make several seams for elastic bands located one above the other. The lower edge of the product is also processed with a wide hem seam, into which, for rigidity, you can insert a fishing line or crossbar - a corset plastic strip.

How to sew a mesh petticoat? In principle, exactly the same as from ordinary fabric. However, if the mesh is rigid, then many craftswomen prefer to make an underskirt on a yoke, which does not create additional volume in the waist and hips. Such a petticoat should be shorter than the main product, because. the peeping mesh does not look aesthetically pleasing. If the model requires that the petticoat made of such material be visible, then the hem must be decorated with a narrow strip of lace along the entire length.

Petticoat or petticoat

1. Petticoat or petticoat designed to create volume of the main skirt
2. Petticoats designed not to create volume, but to be worn under knitted or translucent dresses

1. Petticoat or petticoat designed to create volume of the main skirt

Thanks to this accessory, the outfit looks more feminine and airy. The petticoat is an essential attribute of the style of the 50s, and is also often used in the manufacture of evening and ball gowns. Most often, the petticoat is used with dresses in the floor or middle length.

The article describes how to independently sew a simple single-layer and very lush multi-tiered petticoat. Material selection

For the manufacture of lush petticoats, taffeta or tulle is most often used. The more rigid the material you choose, the better the product will hold its shape. Organza, chiffon or ordinary lining fabric is perfect as the basis for such skirts. The base can also be made of tulle, but in this case the petticoat will create discomfort while wearing, it can ruin the stockings or the fabric of the main skirt.

How to sew a petticoat without a base This option is made in the form of a sun skirt

4 petals are cut out in expanded form, which is a circle, which are subsequently sewn together

Materials and fixtures:

Fatin; satin ribbon; sewing machine; scissors; threads; colored crayons; tape measure.

Instructions: There are several options for using a petticoat: you can sew it to the bodice (skirt) of the dress or stretch an elastic band into it around the waist. In the first case, measure the circumference of the part of the suit to which you plan to sew the petticoat, in the second - the waist circumference. Divide the resulting number by 16 (4 petals folded 4 times). Remember the result. Take 4 pieces of tulle square shape. The size depends on the estimated length of the petticoat. For dresses of medium length, squares with a side of 100 cm are enough. Lay the cuts one on top of the other and fold them in half twice. On the central corner, you need to measure a line equal to the length of the quotient obtained in paragraph 2. You will need to cut off the corner along this line.

petticoat length

Set aside the length of the petticoat from the waistline. The latter is usually less than the length of the skirt of the dress by 4–5 cm.

Cut out the pattern. You should have 4 circles with a hole in the middle. Cut them along the radius lines and sew the pieces together along these lines. As a result, you will have fluffy skirt, the upper edge of which is equal to the circumference of the waist. Sew a satin ribbon at the top and bottom of the seams, and process the bottom edge with it. Sew the petticoat to the dress or decorate the top with a linen elastic. Such an accessory provides a uniform volume and does not create folds under the clothes in the waist area.

Fluffy petticoat based on

This option can be used both independently and put on top of the finished crinoline. It is convenient to use lining fabric as a base, and the volume is created by the same tulle.

Production: Cut 4 wedges from the lining fabric, top part which is equal to 1/4 of the waist circumference. The bottom edge of the wedges depends on the desired volume. Sew the wedges so that you get an even canvas. Cut the tulle into strips 30 cm wide.

Start sewing on the frills from the bottom. Make even folds along the seam.
The second level of tulle should overlap the first by about a third.

So you get a uniform volume, which will gradually increase from the waist to the bottom. Continue sewing tiers onto the lining.
After finishing the frills, sew the petticoat along the vertical cut.

Be sure to process the edge of the lower tier of tulle with a satin ribbon. Sew the product to the bodice of the dress or put it on an elastic band.

2. Petticoats designed not to create volume, but to be worn under knitted or translucent dresses

. We try to select models without design frills, comfortable and functional. All offered skirts contain elastane (lycra), which allows them to fit the figure without changing the silhouette. The fabric is thin, but dense, allows you to wear dresses even from chiffon. Pay attention to petticoats "mini", short and fitted. They do not interfere with movements and are almost invisible, especially skin-colored models.

*Trendy these days evening dresses suggest the presence of a tight corset and a fluffy skirt. Such models are suitable for both very thin young ladies, focusing on their thin waist, and curvaceous girls, allowing you to pay attention to their luxurious breasts and hiding full hips behind endless folds.

The underskirt is made of cotton. The top is made of lining fabric, and two frills are sewn on the bottom. Everything is trimmed with cotton embroidery and delicate nylon lace.
Skirt width at the bottom 4.5 meters http://www.livemaster.ru/item/10428881-odezhda-nizhnyaya-yubka
*IMPORTANT:
in no case do you sew from tulle and tulle. it quickly loses its shape and is very unpleasant when worn on the skin !!
use either special fabrics for petticoats - the link is in the description, or cotton or organza or chiffon.
The longer the first 2 layers, the thinner the petticoat!

The petticoat consists of 2 layers and 3 tiers. The strips of each tier are of different lengths, the longest is the lower one (I look at the length of the strip according to the width of the fabric, I take about 3 widths for the bottom strip, the long ones fit to the shorter ones).
The width of the stripes depends on how long you need. I have a lower band 20 cm, an average 15 cm, an upper 15 cm + allowances. And for an elastic band of about 4 cm. This gives a length of about 50 cm.
Yes, I did the lining, but it’s just not convenient for me with it (I removed it). If the pantyhose does not catch without lining, maybe I process everything on an overlock.

* If necessary, hold a long dress (stairs, bend down, transport, etc.), a girl in a long dress crouches a little and takes the dress in her fist from the side just above the level of her knees.
Why on the side? But because this girl does not sparkle with her legs! And at the same time, the skirt was saved from shuffling up the stairs, since it was deprived of free wide movement. There are still nuances - when you go down, you grab at your knees and slightly moving your hand back, and when you go up, then vice versa, a little ahead. And did you notice? MOST brides do not observe this and lift up their dresses on a crinoline with both hands (at the same time on the fly for some reason) along with the petticoat high in front, exposing legs to the knees and allowing the dress to cling to the back. And they tried so hard, our craftswomen sewed for her ...

*About sewing on frills, especially on petticoats.

Why do I want to bring the following little known ways sewing on frills?
- Because, firstly, they completely cover the cut of the seam, which is important if, for example, you use barbed mesh, organza and other muck :). - And in general, a cut is not the most pleasant thing for the body / tights.
And secondly, these are rigid seams that bristle a hundred times more than the usual primitive strike, which everyone always uses.

1.Zaposhivka, or linen seam.

13.

4.French seam with stitching.

Do the same (see 3), then press the seam up and stitch it to the skirt.

5. I don’t even know what to call it, but this (in my practice) is the most sticky seam. Very elastic and fluffy. I'll call it a double wrap.
I don't have a picture, I'll try it on my fingers.
- Sew the frill to the skirt face to face. Frill allowance 4 mm, skirt allowance 12 mm.
- smooth out the skirt allowance by 4 mm, then tuck it in another 4 mm, wrapping the allowance of the first seam with the skirt allowance.
- Sew this hem to the first 1 mm allowance from the first seam.

The most important, indispensable, at the same time inconspicuous accessory to any wedding, puffy, children's dress is a petticoat. It has a lot of advantages, creates volume, gives shape, adds elegance, makes the image more modest, sophisticated, refined. In addition, this detail is incredibly important for holiday dresses in the style of fairy princesses. Short dresses with fluffy skirts look no less chic. Therefore, in this article we will consider the most popular ideas on how to sew a petticoat for a dress.

How to sew a simple petticoat?

You will not need any special skills, tools, the main thing is to be patient, and you will get a wonderful petticoat under the dress. A do-it-yourself petticoat is made in just a few steps:

  • Taking measurements. It is necessary to determine the length of the petticoat and the girth of the hips. To calculate the waist width, you need to multiply the circumference of the hips by the assembly factor. As a rule, its value ranges from 1.5 to 3.5 times. Here already decide for yourself how fluffy the skirt you want to get in the end.

Important! Note that the stiffer the material, the lower this coefficient will be. The length of the product is measured from the waist to the desired length. The main thing is that it should be shorter than the dress.

  • We transfer the measurements to the fabric. According to the measurements, take a piece of rectangular material. You can use any fabric that holds its shape well. It must first be steamed so that during washing ready product not a village.
  • Seam processing. Side cuts are processed with a double seam or stitched by overcasting. The top and bottom seams should be finished with a closed seam in the hem. On the top cut, be sure to leave room for threading the elastic.

Important! To keep the skirt in shape better, make sure that the bottom hem is wider.

  • The final stage. Steam all seams well. Thread the elastic, stitch its ends together into a ring.

How to sew a fluffy petticoat yourself?

A dress can be made lush in only two ways - using rings or a large number of layers of fabric. It is generally accepted that multilayering is more appropriate in the case of short dresses, not too lush. Below we give two examples of sewing petticoats - with rings, from tulle.

The use of tulle

In this section, we will look at how to sew a tulle petticoat for a sun skirt. This is the most common model of modern dresses, in particular among children. In this case, you will not need volume in the hips for making a petticoat. The main will be a semi-sun skirt and tulle frills.

It is necessary to buy lining fabric, for example, silk or coarse calico and tulle. Then do everything according to the following scheme:

  • Take measurements of the waist area, measure the length of the half-sun skirt, taking into account the splendor of the future product, and cut it out of the fabric. Finish the top.
  • Leave room for an elastic band, unless, of course, you prefer another option for fasteners, zippers or buttons.
  • From tulle, it is necessary to cut out the desired number of rows of frills. The uppermost tier should cover the fastening seam of the lowermost tier by a few centimeters. In this regard, the height of the frills is determined by calculating the distance between adjacent tiers.

Important! Narrow frills give splendor, but often strongly puff up under the fabric of the dress itself, wide ones, on the contrary, give the silhouette a roundness.

  • The length of the product depends directly on the chosen splendor. The most magnificent should be the lower frill, so its length can be safely multiplied by three.
  • Next, you need to sew into the ring each cut assembly along the side cut. Process the bottom.
  • To make the contraction uniform, lay several lines along the upper sections. Stitch the tightened rings to the desired size. Bookmarks can be made without using a typewriter, and only then stitched.
  • It remains only to try on a petticoat along with the dress.

Important! If it is very confused, then you will have to sew on a weighting agent, for example, a soft wire, making a small drawstring.

Using mesh on rings

If you are afraid that you will be tangled in a huge number of layers of a skirt at an important event all the time, then consider another good option, how to sew a mesh petticoat for a fluffy skirt. The master class below is based on the use of rings.

The technique itself is simple:

  1. Cut out a skirt from the grid of the desired splendor. Actually, the number and length of the rings also depend on this. As a basis, you can use the same half-sun skirt, the sun or a six-piece skirt. The wedges should be equal to the fourth part of the circle.
  2. The belt can be held on with ties or an elastic band, or in general, you can sew in a special hidden zipper.
  3. It remains only to fix with satin ribbon rings.
  4. Turn the finished petticoat inside out. Attach a ring to the bottom. Pin the ribbon on top with pins so that it completely covers it. Then stitch the ribbons along all the cuts.
  5. Fasten the remaining hoops at the same distance.
  6. Now turn the piece right side out.

Important! To give it a rounded shape, sew on frills, moreover, their width should correspond to the distance between adjacent rings. As for the length, here the choice is individual.

How to make a petticoat for a baby dress?

This is a great solution if your child has no other outfit to attend some special event, children's performance or matinee. Little girls in such outfits feel like real princesses.

First of all, familiarize yourself with the principles of this process:

  • If you haven’t sewn such things before, then think over everything in advance so that the finished product does not bristle, does not hinder movements, and does not prick.
  • Now decide on the fabric - it can be silk, lace, mesh or tulle. But it is mesh or tulle that keeps its shape best, practically does not tear and creates the perfect volume.
  • The next step is to determine the volume, that is, the number of wedges.

How to make a fluffy petticoat for baby dress? - The scheme is simple and allows you to make the product quickly enough:

  1. Sew each ruffle of tulle under the base of the skirt. In principle, tulle can be collected or not collected per line.
  2. Stitch the warp strip and tulle frill evenly. Stitch everything on the machine.
  3. Decide on the middle of each side and center the pieces of fabric.
  4. The base should be assembled in such a way as to obtain a distance of 5-8 cm.
  5. Then, under the foot of the machine, assemblies are laid and sewn. First you need to connect all the tiers. In this case, the tulle will not fly off during the overcasting of frills.

How to sew a fluffy tulle petticoat. (According to the materials of Svetlana Khatskevich "Burdastyle") (Additional material to Model No. 51 ( Wedding Dress L. Boyarskaya). In order, for example, for a wedding petticoat of this type to keep its shape better, it is sewn from hard tulle. From this master class, you will learn how to sew another version of a puffy petticoat under a dress - with frills. It can be sewn from both hard and soft tulle. The advantage of a fluffy petticoat with frills is that it is completely made of soft tulle, so it is light, fluffy and comfortable to wear. Hard tulle catches tights, edges and seams can prick legs, this does not happen with soft tulle. In this design, all seams are under the frills with outside petticoat, and a whole half-sun skirt goes to the body, so there are no such problems. Due to the frills overlapping each other, a soft transition is obtained from one frill to another. In addition, due to the large number of layers and the density of frills, the petticoat becomes opaque, which allows it to be used for dresses made of transparent fabrics - tulle, chiffon, lace. The bottom of the petticoat turns out to be very “thick”, multi-layered, in short skirts it can be made peeking out from under the overskirt, which will add elegance to the dress. THE DEFECT OF THE PITCH WITH ROLLS IS ONE: IT WILL NEED A LOT OF FABRIC. for a long petticoat made of hard tulle: approximately 4.5 m with a width of 3 m; for a long petticoat made of soft tulle: approximately 7.5 m with a width of 3 m. CUTTING THE Petticoat STEP 1 The base of the fluffy petticoat is a half-sun skirt. Rows of frills are sewn on it. The top of the skirt is gathered with an elastic band. To build a skirt, we need to calculate two radii: Radius 1 (R1) - for the waist under the elastic, so the girth of the skirt at the top should be such that the skirt is easy to put on. Let's take the Girth of the Hips (OB) + 10 cm, hence R1 \u003d (OB + 10): 3.14 Radius 2 (R2) is the bottom of the skirt, so it is equal to the length of the skirt plus R1 R2 \u003d R1 + Skirt length (see diagram) We fold the fabric in half and draw two radii from the upper edge of the fold, give an allowance of 1-1.5 cm along the waist and side. An allowance is not needed along the bottom, the bottom of the tulle is not processed. STEP 2. CUTTING THE SKIRT We unfold the skirt in one layer and mark the places for sewing on the frills. To do this, we retreat down 10-15 cm from the waist, draw a line. The top, longest frill will be sewn along it. We divide the remaining length of the skirt into three parts if the skirt is on the floor and into two parts if the skirt is over the knee. I got 27 cm. We draw lines at regular intervals (see diagram). The bottom frill is the shortest, in my case it is 27 cm, then comes the middle frill, which completely covers the bottom frill, it is twice as long (54 cm). Further, these frills are covered by the upper, longest frill, it is three times longer than the lower frill (81 cm). STEP 3. CALCULATE THE LENGTH OF EACH ROLL To do this, measure the length of the line along which the frill is sewn. The frill should be three times as long as this line. Therefore, for the lower frill, we cut out three strips of 3m each. Total length of the lower frill = 9m. For the middle - two lanes of 3m. Total length of the middle frill = 6m. For the top frill you need one strip = 3m long. If the tulle is hard or semi-hard, then we make the frills single. To make the fluffy petticoat opaque, the base (semi-sun skirt) can be cut out of the lining fabric, and tulle frills can be sewn onto it. The consumption of tulle in this case will be reduced to 3 m. But since I have soft tulle, I need thicker frills, so I make them double, with a fold in the middle. To do this, I double the width of each frill. This increases the consumption of fabric, but the petticoat becomes twice as magnificent. Since tulle weighs little, the skirt remains light, but very fluffy (see photo). frill cutting pattern). SEWING THE PITCH STEP 1 On the semi-solar skirt, mark the places for sewing on the frills. Spread out the skirt in one layer. Do not sew the skirt before sewing on the frills! It is more convenient to sew frills on a flat piece of a skirt. STEP 2. How to sew a tulle petticoat Sew parts of each of the frills into one long one. For this short ends frills are superimposed on each other by 5 mm and adjusted to each other with an overlay seam. Do not sew frills into the ring! STEP 3 Fold each ruffle in half lengthwise and iron along the fold. Then unfold in one layer and lay the landing line along the fold with the widest stitch on the machine. STEP 4 Put the frill on the skirt in an unfolded way. So that the edge of the frill coincides with the edge of the skirt, and the middle of the frill with a line - with the marking line on the skirt. Pin the frill to the skirt with pins across the stitching, retreating along the side of the skirt 1-1.5 cm from the edge. This is necessary in order to sew the skirt along the seam in the future, without capturing the frills. It is convenient to divide the skirt into 4 parts and the frill into 4 parts (in half and again in half), pin the frill along the edges and along these four equal parts, and then pull the thread and evenly distribute the assembly in these areas. So the frill throughout the skirt will be collected evenly. You need to pin the frill often so that it does not move. STEP 5 Machine-stitch the ruffle to the skirt, remove pins and seating stitch. STEP 6 Turn the frill down and iron the fold. If the frill is single-layer, then it is shirred along the upper cut and sewn onto the skirt along the marking line. In this case, it is necessary to allow 1 cm of allowance for the long cut of the frill! If you want only the edge of the sun or half sun skirt to be lush, you can sew such a petticoat with only one frill. For example, a petticoat for a dress for the summer, a light skirt or a children's dress. The edges of the frills coquettishly look out from under the skirt and hold the edge of the upper skirt. STEP 7 In the same way, sew on the middle frill, turn it down and iron it. Such a petticoat can be used for more fluffy skirts, for example, tatyanka, sun or half sun. In this case, a conical effect is achieved - the skirt fits the figure at the waist, and gradually expands towards the bottom. STEP 8 If you need a fluffy skirt from the waist, you need to sew another frill. It is the longest, covers all the lower ruffles, but is not included in the assembly at the waist, so the waist remains thin. The extension starts just below the waist. We sew it in the same way as the two previous frills. STEP 9 Now you need to pin and stitch the seam of the skirt. Since we sewed the frills, stepping back from the side cuts of the skirt to the width of the allowance, they do not enter the seam. The seam allowances for soft tulle are simply ironed out, and for hard tulle, it is better to turn over the allowance so that it does not prick. STEP 10 We take an elastic band 3-4 cm wide, cut it off along our waist +3 cm. We put the ends of the elastic bands on top of each other by 1.5 cm and grind them with a zigzag seam. STEP 11 We prick the upper edge of the skirt on the elastic in 4 places, then stretch the elastic to the cuts of the skirt and sew the edge of the skirt on the elastic in a zigzag, preferably with two lines - along the edge of the fabric and along the lower edge of the elastic. It is better to stitch the tulle on the outside of the elastic band so that it does not prick at the waist in the sock. STEP 12 It remains to sew the layers of ruffles so that they become solid. We put the edges of the frills at the seam of the skirt on top of each other and grind with an overhead seam. A lush petticoat with your own hands is ready!

I don’t know how to sew myself, but I really want to learn how to create fluffy skirts, and this method is the easiest of all that I have seen. Enough for now

Elasticated petticoat- an irreplaceable and convenient thing, but the assembly most often creates unnecessary folds at the waist. In this case, it is worth sewing a petticoat like a "train".

For such a petticoat, a material is used - a rigid mesh. It is the rigidity of the grid that holds well curvaceous.

And so, we measure the width of the skirt, where the petticoat should start from (not necessarily the waist). For example: 88 cm. Divide by 16 (the number is unchanged!). We get 5.5.

The length of the grid, for example, is 2 meters. Fold in half, then in half again, again and again. And that 4 times. We get a square. At the central corner, measure 5.5 cm (see above how to find this number) and cut off this corner.

Then measure the length of the skirt. For example: 33 cm. And set aside from the circumcised place.

Cut along the red line. Unfolding .. We get 4 circles with holes inside.

We cut each along the red line. Then we sew all the circles with a "train". Align the points marked in the picture. This will make it easier to understand.

It turns out one big circle with a hole inside. It doesn't have to be flat. Well, or easier to describe the design as something similar to a four-leaf clover. Then sew to the skirt from the inside.

You can add a few more tiers made in the same way, then the skirt will be doubly, or triple puffy.
