How to knit a rug from old knitwear. Knit rugs with your own hands from rags. Making your own rug from old belts

Throughout their lives, our grandmothers-needlewomen have accumulated such a wealth of knowledge and skills that any author of the site of crazy pens and handmade will envy. Of course, they are not familiar with newfangled trends in sewing, decor and design, but as for classic “home” things, they have no equal here. They will sew, knit, weave, mend and embroider everything that is necessary for themselves and their beloved grandchildren. Yes, I recently received round rug made by grandmother's hands. I immediately wanted to learn how to knit the same rugs myself. I asked for a visit to my grandmother and within half an hour I mastered crocheting. Homemade, which was written about in the last article, had to be slightly modified. In practice, the sharp head of the hook is not at all suitable for knitting - I rounded it off using sandpaper.

So, to learn how to knit a rug, we need:
crochet hook large diameter;
- Chopped pieces of cotton fabric (long stripes) or braid.

Knitting a rug from what you have at home, avoiding spending money, is very simple. To do this, look for clothes that are unsuitable for wearing (preferably old undershirts or a bathrobe). Cut strips 2-3 centimeters wide, then connect them into a long rope of patches. Roll into a ball. And now the material is ready for work!

You can also select a different version of the source material. To do this, purchase a braid in a fabric and accessories store and use it as shreds for a homemade rug. Tape has its pros and cons. When compared with knitting from patches, then when choosing a braid, you yourself will be able to choose the colors to your liking or to match the interior, at the same time there will be no need to knit balls of patches, which will significantly save your time. The downside is that you will have to spend money on the purchase of braid. To weave at least a medium-sized rug, you need 200 meters of braid. If you choose the second option, then give preference to inexpensive, but at the same time high-quality and beautiful braid.

We start crocheting point by point:

1. It is necessary to impose a chain of air loops;

2. Tie the first and last loop with a connecting loop;

3. Make a lifting loop (one more loop as in point No. 1), threading a thread through the center of the circle > grab the thread with a hook and pull it back through the center outward > make a loop and start knitting loops in a circle. Then, inserting a hook into each imposed loop, we continue to knit the loops according to the principle described below.

The way to start crochet is shown in the picture.

Knitting a perfect circle involves constantly counting loops, rows and additions, but I want to offer a simplified version of picking up loops. It all consists in imposing loops in a circle, adding two loops to every second loop. Thus, alternate the loops according to the “one-two” principle and so on in a circle. You can visually see the process by watching the video “how to knit a rug”.

You are unlikely to be able to knit a perfectly round rug, as it can twist and eventually turn into a hat (as I had in my first experience of knitting a rug). The even surface of the rug depends on the number of loops added and their density, as well as the correctly selected hook diameter. The hook is selected individually depending on the size of the flaps (braid). If you can't, don't despair! Try again and then everything will be tied up for you.

Each time you finish a round, straighten and straighten your knitting. Follow my example and start with threads, and then move on to shreds from clothes.

If your edge of the rug turns out to be wavy when knitting, then it is better to dissolve a couple of rows and start over, but at the same time a new row of loops should be knitted into each loop one at a time, omitting the “one-two” knitting principle. Most likely, the new row will begin to bend the edge of the rug, then the next row should be started knitting according to the “one-two” principle (start adding loops through one by two). I encountered such a situation when I was knitting the last purple strip of the rug. The described recipe helped me to solve this problem. Let me summarize the work done:

- The diameter of the rug is 74 centimeters;

– Thickness 3 centimeters;

- A little more than 250 meters of braid was used up.

Many housewives love to decorate their home with various products. Made by hand, they create an atmosphere of warmth, coziness and comfort on winter evenings. A good option to diversify the interior of the apartment, to bring elements of antiquity into it - to crochet a rug from old things, the execution scheme of which is simple and accessible.

You will need to prepare source materials. Sort out old things. T-shirts, dresses, tights, skirts and others made from knitted and synthetic materials. Cut them in a spiral into strips, wind them into balls.

The width of the strips depends on the density of the material. The thinner it is, the wider the cut strips.

Prepare a hook size 8.5-10. It will be great if the balls turn out to be multi-colored.

How to knit a round rug: diagram

The main rule is the observance of the principle of circular knitting.

Dial 3 in. p., connect them into a ring. The first row, knit 6 single crochets. In each next row, 6 columns must be evenly added. In the finished form, the product will be smooth, without bulges and distortions. Knit the rug to the required size.

For a better understanding of the knitting pattern:

To get a more spectacular mat with a convex relief, follow the steps in the diagram. Only knit columns by picking up the back wall of the loop

We knit a pentagonal rug according to the scheme

When knitting such a rug, it is better to use soft knitwear.. You need to start by knitting a circle of 5 loops. In the 1st row - 3 air loops, 2 columns with one crochet in the first loop of the bottom row, 2 in. p., * 3 columns with a crochet, 2 c. n. * Run the scheme between the asterisks 5 times. In the 2nd row - the same as in the first row. But after 3 double crochets, knit 1 air loop and then according to the diagram below.

Knitting a rug in a circle is performed to the required size. Each corner of the star is tied separately.

How to make knitting threads from unnecessary things

To get long stripes, cut the T-shirt from the bottom up in a spiral. Immediately wrap it in a ball so that the "threads" do not get tangled.

Short strips are easy to connect. Step back from the edge by 1.5 centimeters, cut each strip.

Align the two strips so that their slots line up.

Pass the other end of the upper strip from below through the aligned slots and pull out. As a result, you will get a knot.

In this way, you can fasten all the strips when knitting the product.

Carpet in the form of a path for the corridor

After watching a master class on knitting a rug, you can make a beautiful carpet path from old things, which is convenient and practical for the corridor.

Cut into strips old T-shirts, T-shirts, skirts. Roll them into balls. It's better if they are different colors.

Run a chain of air loops equal to the width of the future rug. Next, knit with loops with one crochet

When one ball ends, connect another. Sew the ends with thread.

The track is knitted in a rectangular shape, so the fabric will need to be turned over when knitting.

If there is not enough thread, cut more strips of the desired width.

As a result of creativity, you will get a beautiful path for a balcony, cottage or corridor.

The use of weaving

Prepare the frame according to the size of the future carpet product, stuff the carnations on two opposite sides. Set the distance at 2.5-3 centimeters apart.

The following instructions will help you learn how to weave a rug from old things with your own hands.

Stretch the strips of material. It is advisable to take its colorless shades. This will be the base.

Stretch the working strips first over the thread, then under it.

At the end of the row, pull the strip under the warp and work in the opposite direction.

While weaving the rug, sometimes shift the already finished rows to the initial row. At the end of the work, hide all the knots on the wrong side. Now ready product can be removed from the frame.

Working with knots

The basis is cut strips from old T-shirts about 12-15 centimeters long. You will need quite a lot of strips. Now they need to be rinsed washing machine. As a result, twisted strips are obtained, from which the rug is made.

Put the carpet net on the table, bring a strip of material from below. With a thick crochet hook, pull both ends of the strip and tie them tightly with a knot pull on one side. Now tie the next strip. It is advisable to start from the center of the grid, gradually moving in a circle to its edges.

Knotted rugs can be made in different shapes and colors.

Round rug from unnecessary things

To better understand how to knit a rug from old things, study the following instructions.

Pre-cut unnecessary knitwear into strips 3 centimeters wide.

To make the rug smooth and beautiful, try to make the strips the same width.

Material use different colors.

Make a loop, insert your hook into it.

Knit a few loops to make a small braid.

The loops are connected in a circle.

Knit an air loop.

Pass the hook through the loop of the circle, pick up the thread and pull it through two loops.

Knit a rug in this pattern right size. Make a fringe along the contour of the finished rug.

Tip: while the circle being knitted is small, make air loops before each loop.

Master Class

Comfort in the house consists of little things that can be done by hand. Rustic charm will be given to the interior by homespun rugs. They are easy to make in the hallway, bathroom, nursery and use as bedding for animals, bedspreads on chairs. Do-it-yourself knitted rugs from old things will compete with fashionable designer textiles for the home. Some interesting ideas and schemes for such creativity you will find in this article.

materials

For knitting, you need to make yarn from knitwear. After cutting off all the buttons, decor and zippers, cut unnecessary t-shirts, sweaters and dresses into long strips. You can make yarn from a T-shirt without knots using this method:

  1. Lay your clothes flat on the table.
  2. Cut the shirt into fringes, not reaching the edge by 3 cm.
  3. We unfold the place where we did not cut it. And cut diagonally. If you cut in a straight line, you will get separate rings.

The thread turns out to be completely even, convenient for work.

Important! The thicker the material, the narrower the yarn should be.

You can also make yarn from an old sheet:

  1. Tear off the edges on all sides.
  2. Fold the canvas in half, cut into strips, without cutting to the end.
  3. Turn the fabric over, make a cut in the opposite direction without cutting the edge.
  4. By cutting the sheet along the zigzag, we get a thread with sharp corners that need to be hidden during knitting.

Important! Soft rugs can be knitted from old sweaters. The cut ribbons are soaked in boiling water and stretched, and then sewn into one.

Rugs made from old clothes last a very long time and absorb moisture well. Knit a solid round rug or combine threads of different colors.

Crochet rugs

Yarn from old clothes is suitable for knitting with a thick crochet hook 8-15 mm. While knitting, do not tighten the thread, otherwise the rug will wrinkle. The choice of yarn is also important: the thicker the thread, the more loose the mat will turn out.

Crochet granny rug

This master class will show you how to knit an even “grandmother's” rug with your own hands from old things.

  • hook 8, 10 sizes;
  • knitted yarn.

Operating procedure:

  1. Make a loop, tie, thread the hook.
  2. Make a chain of 6 air loops.
  3. Lock the chain into a ring.
  4. Tie with half columns.
  5. Knit the first loop, make a rise.
  6. Continue knitting with double crochets, not forgetting to add loops.

Important! In the first row from 1 loop we knit 2 tbsp. without n., we divide knitting into 6 sectors and when knitting each segment we make 1 tbsp. with a crochet.

Rectangular rug

For the corridor, you can knit a track from old clothes. Knitting starts from the middle of the carpet:

  1. Dial a chain of air loops.
  2. Knit the next rows with a column with 1 crochet (st. s n).
  3. Add in each subsequent row 2 tbsp. With. n.
  4. When finished knitting, hide the end of the thread from the inside.

Important! Turn the fabric over while knitting. In order not to lose the corners, mark them with threads of a contrasting color.

Carpet on the magic ring

This method allows you to weave even, round rugs of any size:

  1. You need to start with a magic ring. Throw a thread on the fingers of your left hand and wrap it 3 times.
  2. Pull the working end through the ring.
  3. Make a slip loop on the ringlet by pulling the thread through the initial loop.
  4. Tie a loop with 11 double crochets (sc.)
  5. Knit a connecting column, connect the chain.
  6. Knit the second row. s n., 2 for each loop of the bottom row. The total is 24 loops (p.)
  7. We form the third row from the second, knitting from 1 p. 2. Total 36 p.
  8. The next row can be made openwork. We knit st. s n., 2 air p., skip 1 lower st., repeat.
  9. We continue knitting, alternating rows of Art. from n. and openwork.
  10. Finish the edge with waves. Scheme: 1 lifting air loop, skip 1-2 lower sts, from the next loop we make 6 sts. from n. We finish the festoon with a half-column from the bottom row, skipping 1-2 tbsp.

Important! On the basis of the “magic ring”, rectangular and oval rugs are knitted. At the same time, for an oval, loops are added from each edge of the chain. And a rectangular shape is obtained if you make 4 increments, forming the corners of the carpet.

Openwork

A do-it-yourself rug from old things does not have to be tightly knit. Very modern look rugs, similar to large napkins. Where to find beautiful scheme for such a wonderful rug? Needlewomen take the ornaments of ordinary napkins and increase the number of loops and rows, focusing on the thickness of their yarn.

It will not be easy for a beginner to knit such a complex product from start to finish. Therefore, for the first steps of turning old things into light openwork carpet, use the following methods:

  1. Link 5 separate modules in one simple pattern and connect them into a canvas.
  2. Change the scheme of the “grandmother's” rug by adding rows from st. from n. and air loops.

Important! Openwork rugs do not need a lining, they keep their shape well and do not deform when washed.

bear

Knitted rugs in the form of animals, knitted from old things with your own hands, will decorate the nursery and kids will like it. They are not as difficult to knit as it seems. To work, you will need threads of 4 colors for the head, cheeks, muzzle and nose:

  • On the air loop, knit 12 tbsp. from n. and join in a circle.
  • At the beginning of the next row, make 3 ch. and make additions: 2 tbsp. from n. from each loop.
  • In the 3rd row, knit 3 lifting stitches, - add 1 tbsp. from n. from 1 p. and 2 tbsp. from n. from 1 p. alternately.

Important! We alternate the addition in even and odd rows. It turns out that 12 new loops are added in each row.

  • Knit cheeks and muzzle in the same way, focus on the size of the bear's head.
  • Knit the ears according to the base pattern, dividing the number of loops and increments by 2.
  • Sew the details to the base with ordinary threads.
  • From black yarn, knit a chain of chp, cut and make eyebrows, a nose and cilia out of them.

Important! All muzzle rugs are knitted on the basis of a simple rug. Try making a rug with a penguin, a cat, or a lion cub for a child's room.

Braid rug

The easiest way to make paths is from old clothes and bed linen from braided braids. They do not need a hook, which is why this method is so popular. Let's figure out how to make do-it-yourself rugs from old things step by step.

in the hallway

It is not difficult to make a rectangular shoe mat from short braids. An unusual detail of such a rug is a fringe on the sides:

  1. Weave braids and tighten the ends with threads.
  2. We sew them on the substrate.
  3. We untwist the ends on both sides and trim so that the fringe is the same length.

Important! In the same way, you can make a fluffy rug from terry towels for the bathroom.

Tights rug

A very strong and elastic yarn comes out of old tights and socks, which will withstand repeated washings:

  1. Cut the stocking into rings 1.5-2 cm.
  2. Stretching the sections.
  3. We twist the figure eight, making one ring and put it on the index and thumb of the left hand.
  4. In the right, we also fold the elastic band and put it on above the second.
  5. We pick up the bottom ring from the thumb, transfer it to the top one. Similarly, we transfer from the index. The first loop of the chain turned out.
  6. Repeat several times until a fluffy pigtail of the desired length comes out.
  7. The finished braid can be rolled into a circle or sewn rectangular rug.

Important! If the circle is very tight and does not straighten out with your hands, steam it and straighten it.

Wicker

Simple homespun sackcloths are woven on a frame with nails. The distance between them is 2.5-3 cm. Pull the warp thread, pull the tape in a checkerboard pattern. The canvas must be squeezed with your hands, then the carpet will turn out to be dense and even.

Important! If short pieces of fabric are used for weaving, then the knots are hidden from the inside of the rug.

round tapestry

To make this rug look more interesting, take threads of bright colors for weaving:

  1. Cut out a circle with sectors from cardboard, make cuts.
  2. Wrap the template with threads, fasten them in the slots.
  3. Wrap, starting from the center, the warp threads.
  4. Having reached the edge, tie a knot, hide and sew it from the inside out.
  5. Cut the threads of the canvas and tie them in knots.

Important! By alternating yarn from old things in bright and rich colors, you can create a pattern that looks like a mandala.

Kruglyash on a hoop

This round rug comes out best from inelastic threads and rope. For the base, a T-shirt is taken, cut into rings, which are pulled onto a hoop. The strip should wrap around the hoop not tightly, sag a little. Otherwise, the finished product will wrinkle.

Here are some tips for making such a decorative rug:

  • Weaving starts from the center. Pass the thread alternately under the warp thread.
  • After finishing the carpet, cut the threads and tie them in a knot.

Important! For such a rug, not only knitted yarn is suitable, but also scraps of cotton fabric.

Patchwork

Rags and old clothes it is not necessary to cut into threads. beautiful rugs obtained from patches sewn together.

Volume rug in the nursery

Make soft rugs with your own hands from old things for a home with kids:

  1. Cut the fabric into squares of 12 cm (front side of the pillow) and 8 cm (wrong side of the details).
  2. Make a double fold on large squares, chip them with small ones.
  3. Sew the patches on a typewriter, leaving an open hole on one side.
  4. Turn inside out and fill the pads with holofiber, sew up the hole.
  5. Sew the pillows together.
  6. Sew on the lining and decorate the edge with an inlay.

Important! Similarly, you can make a blanket and pillows for a nursery in a set.

Fluffy rug on the grid

On the basis of the mesh weaves terry rug from scraps:

  1. Cut the strips into 20 cm pieces.
  2. Hooking on the mesh cell, pull the thread, secure with an air loop.
  3. Braid all the cells and glue the wrong side of a dense fabric.

The rug can be round, of different fluffiness and color, with an ornament.

Important! Instead of mesh, you can use a piece of fabric with cut holes. The inside can be reinforced with an additional layer of fabric.

From spirals

For this rug you need scraps of sweaters and woolen clothes:

  1. Cut things into strips, roll them into a tube.
  2. Trim off the protruding ends.
  3. Fasten with thread.
  4. Connect the blanks into the canvas.

Important! The shape of the rug can be either round or in the form of a flower, abstract, elongated - according to your taste.

Sea pebbles from bedspreads

From old things of ocher, gray, black colors, make an interesting rug in the form of sea pebbles:

  1. Cut the fabric into rounded pieces.
  2. Fill with padding polyester, manually lay a straight seam along the edge and tighten the fabric with filler. It turned out an oval pillow.
  3. Sew all the pebbles into a canvas, glue to the drape base.

Important! Make stones of different sizes and colors - from the smallest to large boulders, so the finished rug will become more interesting.

While visiting your grandmother, you must have seen her small rugs made by hand. Our ancestors did not throw away old things, they gave them a second life. After learning how to weave a patchwork rug without a hook, you can create it yourself. It will not only decorate your home, but also a very practical thing to use.

Enough for sale large hooks for knitting, but such a rug can be made without tools.

round rug

The simplest version of a rug made of shreds of fabric is round. To make it you will need:

  • Old things made of fabric;
  • Scissors;
  • Needle;
  • Threads.

If you just want to recycle old things by creating a door mat for shoes, you can safely take any fabric. If you have ideas to fit this product into the interior, carefully select the color and texture of the fabric.

Start by cutting your fabric into long strips.

If the fabric is fraying a lot, it is better to sew each strip and turn it inside out, leaving the seam inside. This is a rather time-consuming task, but a product made of treated fabric looks neater and will last longer.

From the obtained pieces of fabric you need to weave a braid. The tighter it is, the stiffer the resulting mat will be, respectively, if you want a soft mat, then do not twist the braid too much.

Fasten the ends of the patches with a pin.

And start weaving.

Having reached the end of the ropes, you need to lengthen them. If you tie a knot, it will turn out rude and ugly. There are two options - carefully sew on a new end or make cuts at the ends of the patches and stretch an additional rope through the working end and insert its tail into the cut. Tighten gently and you have a long rope with no knots or stitching. The whole process is clearly visible in the photo:

You need to weave a sufficiently long pigtail.

Do not process its ends yet, but simply grab them with a pin so that they do not bloom. If during the process of making the rug you want it to be larger, simply attach new pieces of fabric and braid the braid to the desired diameter of the finished rug.

Instead of a thread, you can twist the pigtail with a ribbon. To do this, weave it with zigzag stitches in lateral side carpet, then into a working thread-pigtail. Tighten the tape, and it will connect the parts together.

For more strength, it is better to completely weave or stitch the edge row of the rug, then the product will definitely not fall apart.

Round rug is ready!

Bathroom decoration

Convenient and practical rug for the bathroom can be made with your own hands. For this you will need:

  • Old towels;
  • Ruler and tailor's chalk;
  • Sewing machine;
  • Tailor's scissors.

The manufacturing process of such a rug differs little from that described above. First, cut the towels into long pieces 4-5 cm wide.

Connect the first three pieces with sewing machine. You also need to build up the “working thread” using this sewing tool.

When weaving a pigtail, the raw edges must be folded inward.

During the assembly process, you need to stitch the rows on the machine.

Bath mat is ready! It is very soft and pleasant to the touch, absorbs moisture well and can be washed.

Woven patterns

Patchwork rugs can be woven using a warp. It looks like a small loom. Make a wood frame to match the size of your rug. It can be rectangular or square, it all depends on your idea. Carnations need to be stuffed onto the frame at a distance of 2-2.5 cm from each other.

For these purposes, you can use a furniture board or an old table. It is not difficult to make a machine, and it will serve you for a long time.

On them, strengthen the warp threads made from pieces of fabric. On the leftmost warp thread, fasten the working thread. It's best to sew it on. Weave the rug by passing the rope over one warp thread and under the other. You can use more complex techniques and weave with two working threads at once. In the process of weaving, the fabric must be constantly pushed up so that it is more dense.

Spring is the time for general cleaning. Therefore, we should look into our closets and sort through everything in order to get rid of the junk stored there. But do not rush to get rid of it for good, because everything has the right to a second life. For example, you can create rugs from old things with your own hands and give yourself new emotions and memories.

Rugs from old things, what techniques can be used

Old things are an excellent material for creativity, which a thrifty housewife will always have. T-shirts, unusable towels, and any wardrobe items can always get a second life. But still, it is very important to understand that in order to create new things from old ones, it is necessary to pay attention not only to the material for creativity, but also to the technique that we choose for this.

After all, rugs from old things can:

  • weave,
  • to tie,
  • sew.

And we will try to create a do-it-yourself rug from old things step by step using detailed master classes and getting great results.

Weaving

One of the oldest and most proven techniques for creating carpets is weaving. After all, this does not require a lot of knowledge or skills. And sometimes the most simple tools are required, easily replaced with something that is always at hand. And therefore, it is worth starting to create your first rug with weaving or weaving.

Weaving according to the principle of macrame

If it seems to you that macrame is only suitable for creating and small elements, then now we will dispel this belief. After all, if instead of a thin lace you take something more voluminous and dense, then the result will be completely different.

In weaving rugs from old things, there are no difficulties or tricks that are inaccessible to novice craftswomen. As in any technique, the main role here is played by a sense of taste and the desire to create. Therefore, any set of old things can easily turn into a charming bedside rug with a little effort.

Basic knots and pattern combinations are great for weaving. But it is worth considering several factors:

  • the rug is used actively and therefore needs to be washed from time to time,
  • they will not only stomp on it, but they can sit, lie down or use it as a bedding on a chair,
  • it must fit into the overall interior.

That is why when choosing knots, do not forget that the rug should:

  • look like a new, not battered doormat,
  • have a dense structure so as not to crumble in your hands and not turn into a string bag,
  • be not easily soiled and not voluminous, for the convenience of its cleaning.

And therefore the most common way of weaving at present is to use the principle of knitting with a French bracelet.

Such a charming rug will definitely not go unnoticed in the house and will be beneficial to emphasize the interior and taste of the hostess. And to create it, you will need not so much:

  • wide strips from old things,
  • adhesive tape,
  • scissors,
  • thread and needle.

First, lay out the 5 strips in the order you like best. Next, fold 5 more strips, but already in a mirror image.

It is most convenient to fasten all tips from the beginning side with adhesive tape. This will allow you not to be distracted during the weaving process, as well as clearly define the sequence.

So, when all the tapes are laid out, we take the leftmost one, take it to the side and fold it so that they lie on all the others, creating the number "4". We start the working tape for the next one and tie the first knot.

We continue to tie the same knots on the next 3 ribbons, and then we move to the opposite side, starting to weave towards the first series of knots.

When both work tapes meet in the middle, tie them and continue weaving from the edge. After reaching the desired length, simply grab the last knots with a strong thread and trim the rest to make a cute fringe.

Do not forget that it is not necessary to twist the braid, it can be folded in a snake or laid parallel to one another to make a charming rectangular fringed rug.

Knitting rugs from old things

Rugs from old things do not have to be woven; knitting is considered a more common solution for creating them.

Even if this is your first time crocheting, you will be able to create a charming and practical decor item. After all, it is coarse knit will help you quickly understand the intricacies of crocheting. And the pattern of the most simple columns single crochet can look very bright and original if you choose the right yarn.

Moreover, the yarn is also made from old things. This is how things can go:

  • old t-shirts,
  • jeans belts,
  • just thin strips of fabric left after tailoring outfits.

It is enough to know and be able to knit increments, and then it’s a matter of technology.

If the yarn taken for the rug seems loose or thin to you, you can use a great trick - at the beginning of knitting, insert a strong cord into the posts and continue to tie it. So your spiral will keep its shape perfectly.

For more openwork rug knit with double crochets, increasing their number in each row. But keep in mind - such knitting will be beautiful, but less dense.

Openwork rug

It is worth noting that you can knit a rug from old things without a hook - an interesting knitting technique from rings on your fingers will help you cope with the disposal of small pieces without spending extra effort and without forcing you to buy some special tools.

You can learn how to knit from rings with Olga Popsueva. In her video master class, she tells in detail how to weave a pigtail, and then form a rug out of it.

Patchwork

Speaking of using old things in making rugs, it's hard to ignore sewing. After all, they started a long time ago and independently of each other in different countries.

As now, women did not throw away old clothes, children's dresses or husband's worn shirts, preferring to collect them to sew, bedspreads, curtains and, of course, rugs. It is no longer a pity to trample, cut and collect such rags into various intricate patterns.

Fluffy mesh rugs

In the past few years, fluffy rugs have become very popular, in which it is so much fun for children to play and crawl. And it's just nice to immerse your feet.

High pile and soft texture won the hearts of craftswomen and housewives, and bright colors attract the attention of the household. But most of all, the fact that you can make such a rug without using any special tools is pleasing.

A fluffy rug can be created in many ways:

  • tying the cuts in knots,
  • using a carpet hook,
  • wielding the simplest crochet hook.

The basis for us will be a grid from a hardware store with large cell Or a bath mat with holes.

In addition to the basics, we also need:

  • fabric ribbons,
  • scissors,
  • hook (optional)

To begin with, cut short ribbons, but do not skimp on their length, because you need to take into account - they will fold in half, and even tie or otherwise be fixed on the grid. Therefore, it is better to make them longer, and then cut them as you like.

When everything is ready, you will be left with the most important task - thread a strip of fabric into the cell so that both ends remain on front side and then you can tie them together simple knot, or pass through the loop using a hook.

When the flaps completely cover the mesh, you just have to cut them to the desired length and the rug from old things is ready to please you and your legs.

Fluffy rugs with a sewing machine

If you do not want to waste your time tying each individual tape, or you have not found a suitable grid, then you can go more in a simple way for which we need:

  • an old pillowcase or a piece of fabric that will become the basis,
  • all the same ribbons from old things,
  • scissors,
  • sewing machine.

For such rugs, knitwear is best suited, because it is more elastic and soft. In addition, it is easy to sew on without fear of breaking the needle.

Heart shaped rug

After you cut the right number ribbons, pull them in length so that they twist a little, and then simply apply to our base and sew row by row in the middle.

Don't worry if the strip doesn't lay flat, you can always trim the entire pile, aligning it to the desired length.

Rugs from old things, what will go into business?

We learned about the techniques for creating a rug from old things, now it’s worth talking about what can serve as material for them and how best to bring your idea to life.

Given the density, quality and size of the old thing, you can choose how to reincarnate it. That is why we would like to tell a little about how and from what rugs are made by modern needlewomen.

Rugs from old jeans

The first thing that comes to mind and requires regular disposal is jeans. Denim has conquered our hearts for a long time and there is not a single fashionista or mod who does not have jeans in his wardrobe. And despite their strength and versatility, they still rub, stretch or otherwise become unusable.

Throwing them away, of course, is a pity, so we collect them on a separate shelf so that we can sew something later.

But for sewing, you need patterns, a sewing machine, and sometimes also a place. While making a do-it-yourself rug from old jeans will not be difficult, everything from the canvas to the pockets and belt will go to work.

Just choose the technique and match the flaps to it:

  • cut them into long strips and weave a rug on a loom,
  • weave long braids and gather them into a round rug,

  • arm yourself large hook and knit any shape using cut strips instead of yarn,
  • weave the strips together according to the braid principle and sew on a typewriter or by hand.

Given the strength of the material, this rug will serve you for more than one season.

Rugs from old T-shirts

But more often than jeans, we wear T-shirts. After all, we use them every day, grow out of them, stretch them, stain them with paint and just get tired of them over time.

Let them no longer be worn, but the knitwear that is used to make T-shirts can be an excellent material for creativity. They can make excellent potholders, coasters, bags and, of course, rugs.

How to make knitted yarn with your own hands

When we look at handmade rugs from old T-shirts, at first we can't believe what they're made of! After all, craftswomen crochet from something very similar to yarn, and not to an old T-shirt.

However, do not be surprised by this and do not think that there is some kind of trick here. Everyone can turn old T-shirts into knitted yarn.

To do this, it is enough to follow detailed video tutorial on the channel Utilitarian Needlework, in which we will be taught how to make as much yarn as possible from an old T-shirt for new rugs.

T-shirt - a versatile material for creating your own rug

And after preparing the yarn, you can already try your hand at creating rugs from old T-shirts with your own hands. After all, they can:

  • to tie,
  • weave,
  • cut for fluffy rugs,
  • sew braids pre-woven from them.

And for this you only need a couple of T-shirts and the desire to create.

Moreover, any patterns of napkins or lace are suitable for crocheting, and you can weave according to the previously described principle of a French bracelet.

Or select your favorite t-shirts, cut out pieces of them and sew a rug according to the principle patchwork quilt, so you save memories and do not throw anything in the trash.

Rugs from old tights

The most consumable element of the wardrobe at all times are tights. They are so quickly torn and become unusable, and even have some seasonality, that at some point we all think - should we come up with something after they have served their time?

And we found the answer - rugs from nylon tights that you can make yourself! After all, they can be an excellent yarn for knitting or weaving a new rug - durable and practical.

The main thing is to know a few tricks:

  • to get a long strip from one pair of tights, you just need to cut off your socks and panties, and then cut the remaining pipe in a spiral,
  • do not tighten knitting so that the rug from old tights does not deform and lose shape over time,
  • nylon can be dyed to make your rug brighter - just use fabric dye and follow the instructions on the pack.

Rugs from old tights can be created with your own hands and without a hook. They can be:

  • sewn from braided braids,

  • woven on a loom

  • woven on a hoop.

And children's tights, which are more often collected in our bins, are perfect for knitting on fingers. All you need is to cut them into rings, and then use the video tutorial from Marina DIY Dolgih:

Rugs from old towels

And even old towels can be used in the world of rugs. Due to their density, length and ability to absorb moisture well, they can give us an excellent accessory for a bathroom, bath or balcony, where you always need to keep your feet warm and dry.

A do-it-yourself rug made from old towels is as simple as any other. It is easy:

  • weaves
  • fits in
  • weaves
  • curls up.

In general, it is created in such a way and in the technique that fell on your heart.

And if you want to give life to terry towels in this way, then try to make a fluffy rug on a construction grid.

As you can see, when cleaning the house, you should not rush to throw away things that have served their purpose. Old t-shirts, towels and even tights can inspire you to create something new and no less useful than their original purpose. Just be smart and your home will be full of new, soft and fashionable rugs that you can create without spending anything but your time, and getting a charge of emotions and good mood!
